Plus there isn't much benefit kicking it out of bounds on a punt except near the end zone. How would you rule it anyway
Devin Hester and Patrick Peterson disagree. If kick out of bounds, you are assessed a big penalty because the other team coudn't return it. If you punt out of bounds, no penalty even though the other team isn't afforded the opportunity to return it. I would penalize the kicking team and add 20 yards to where it went out of bounds.

My biggest issue was an offsides defensive player being held by an OL = offsetting penalties. If a player is offsides, any holding against that player should be allowed, IMO. If there is holding on that play against a player that was NOT offsides, then call offsetting.

I have always disliked automatic first downs for 5 yard ticky-tack penalties. Monday it was 2nd and 25 for the Steelers and SF was flagged for a 5 yard penalty "hands to the face" and they march off 5 yards and suddenly it's 1st down. Should be repeat the down and make it 2nd and 20 in that situation.
Basically in that situation, what I'm saying is...one 5 yard penalty by the defense shouldn't wipe out two penalties (a personal foul penalty and a holding penalty) by the offense.

The NFL defense can't score on the XP attempt.
The offense can score 1 or 2 points, but for some screwed up reason this is the only play in which the defensive players cant score. Every other play in the game, all 22 players have the opportunity to score, but on this play 11 can't. Go with the college rules.

Free kick off of a fair catch.

I disagree with all the Goodell bullshite safety rules that have ruined football.
Horse Collar
Can't overload on onside kicks
Kickoffs moved up
Helmet to Helmet
"Launching" not even sure what that means
"Targeting" not sure what this means either
Can't fall on the QB
Can't touch a QB below the waist
Can't touch a QBs helmet

The one I hate in the NFL is the QB slide rule. Why is it that anyone else on the field can slide, and not be considered down if untouched? Yet, when a QB slides, he is automatically down, and if you touch him, you get flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct?

1. I sort of agree. But, what's to stop someone who is short and won't get in the endzone from purposely fumbling into the endzone out of bounds to get another chance and set of downs from the 1? Thus, I like the rule as is.
2. Teams would never kick to returners. They would just try to kick it out of bounds inside the 10.
3. Not necessarily. You don't know if the guy could've picked up those yards. What if you have a burner on the outside who beats a bump-n-run coverage and there's no safety deep? Then they grab adn hold him and he would've easily been open for a TD.

No mention of the overtime rules yet? Both NFL and College OT rules SUCK.
sudden death...and able to end in a tie?
starting in what is basically field goal range to begin with?
Both are horrible. Flip a coin and play an extra quarter, or do a regular kickoff and give both teams a possession.

Some aspects of the illegal touching rule.
It has a purpose and should still be there. I don't like the fact that as soon as ANY player touches it, it's dead regardless of the outcome. For instance, there was a cowboys game in which the WR made a great play on the ball, came down with the ball in bounds. He did all the things he was supposed to do. However the DB was also trying to make a play on it and had a foot out of bounds while trying to knock the ball out of the hands of the WR. Result: no TD . I think that's kind of bs.
On the flip side, it does serve a purpose. I.e. if the DB had ended up making the int, it shouldn't count . Or in fumble scenarios it's important to rule it dead to prevent players from just tapping back in play and such.

I agree with this.
The Brad Wing call, is the first time in history that points we're taken off of the board for a penalty that could never give the team committing the foul an unfair advantage.

2. Kickoffs that go out of bounds result in the receiving team getting it on the 40, but no penalty for punts. Both are a change of possession through a kick, why the different treatment?

1. Fumbling forward and out of the end zone is a touchback and the other team is awarded possession. WFT? Why such a big penalty to the offensive team? Shouldn't the offense just get it at the 1 yard line?
Stops players from "accidentally"(intentionally) fumbling it forward from the 8 yard line out of the endzone.
I disagree with it being not allowed to return a blocked extra point for 2 points to the other end. Why not have that rule? There is no reason...

I love college OT ...
yeah you are in decent field goal range but if you settle then the other team only needs an td .
I think the NFL should adopt some version of college ot ....start them from the 30 or 35

This really annoys me too. It doesn't make the least bit of sense to me.

In the pros if a runner is running downfield with a blocker in front of him you cannot bodyblock the blocker in an attempt to also knock the runner down. Most of the rest I agree with.

No player on the receiving team possessed the ball, just like an on side kick. You can't advance a ball you kicked without an opposing player having possession.
