Our AD keeps a list of coaches for every sport. Word is his list in order of Ags wanting was Chip Kelly, Petersen, Sumlin, Fedora, Strong, Smart.

Kelly and Petersen because our AD is the former Oregon AD and has good relationships there and often looks that way for a coach.

Kelly declined interest but you have to ask. Petersen was interested but we couldn't iron out a deal. Richt contacted us and had worked himself a nice extension. Fedora couldn't wait and took the UNC job.

That leaves Sumlin who is our fallback hire but a good one. He will recruit Texas better immediately. Our current recruits openly lobby for him on twitter.

Only wild card is our AD raised the funds to pay $4M. Sumlin will cost $2M. What will those donors think? We might have to find somebody worthy of $4M to appease them.

So expect Sumlin unless our AD calls a big name and offers $4M and they agree.

Who are they calling? I have no idea. Really wish I did

Good, let's keep his arse in Athens.

Last I check Richt has more than fared well head to head versus AU over the past 6 or 7 seasons.

maybe $Bill could sell them on using the rest of that cash to hire a big time DC?

I don't see Richt jumping over to compete in the deadly SEC West.

He's got a pretty comfortable position in the SEC East for the next few years.

This was most likely to generate leverage for a new extension.

But whom? I'm happy keeping DeRuyter. We were last in conference on D when he arrived. We were #1 in YPP this year in B12 with significant injuries and loss of Hodges & Von.

Our D sucked on 3rd & long and St forcing turnovers. Other than that our D was very good actually (relative to Big 12, not SEC)

As soon as Marion Grice can start playing and Damontre pulls his head out of his arse and learns side-side pass coverage our D won't have record setting pass yardage against them every game.

Chip Kelly? Come on guys. Keep that shite out of here. I actually like the idea of Richt at Aggie. Sounds like your admins have decided to change their philosophy.

You replied to me so I will answer. What aren't you believing?

I said we called Chip Kelly and he declined interest. Why is that not believable? As already stated our AD was previously at Oregon.

FTR, we are offering over $4M for the right guy. That's more than every coach not named Saban, Brown or Stoops. Really it's a slap in the face that no big names (that make less money than $4M) are taking the job.

And you will end up with Sumlin...Worst coaching search I can remember for a school willing to pay what you guys are.

Thanks! That's something I didn't know. But we all know that if UGAy finally realizes what they have in terms of resources, etc.... A top coach could own the SEC. UGAy fans seem content with winning the east and getting their a-hole blown out by the west.

I really disagree that its a slap in the face.

That is a gross oversimplification of all the issues that go into the process of finding a new coach.

Just b/c we might be offering more money, does not mean that is a sweet enough deal to uproot yourself and your family from a coaching position you may well consider your dream job.

I don't mean Richt alone. We are offering more than 116 teams. No Kelly. No Petersen. No Richt. No (fill in name).

Is Sumlin the best? I hope so.

We swung hard. We didn't hit that hone run. Let's hope Sumlin is a bases clearing triple.

Maybe with the money we drummed up we will pay top money for assistants. Chad Morris just signed on at Clemson for $1.3M. It's a long shot but frick it. Give him a call and see if he wants a million to be OC at his alma matter and back home. Call Larry Porter and see if he wants to be our RB coach. Call Ed Orgeron. Get some damn recruiters. You don't "do more with less" in the SEC. You "do more with more"

Let's Beat The Hell Outta the SEC. Gig'em Ags

I'll say this and I really don't mean it as a flame...I watched Shermans exit interview and it was pure class. That guys deserved better then what A&M's administration gave him yet he still stayed classy through it all. If I'm a big name coach, 4 million isn't enough to make me move to A&M.

So is there really a chance Richt is going to A&M? I don't wanna read this whole thread.

I was the lone Sherman supporter I think. He awed me every time he gave a speech. Just an amazing man and a great football mind. I wanted to give him another year at least. I thought he was building the program in the right direction and ran into a perfect storm of bad luck this year.

But our president didn't want talk of Sherman's hot seat overshadowing our move to the SEC. So he was let go.

Sherman will be back as an OC or HC in the NFL very soon
