McClendon's playing of Freddie Haynes over Mike Hillman was among the worst examples of QB pandering.

The ultimate result? A 30-zip loss to Miami and Ted Hendricks, the Mad Stork.

There isn't a quarterback controversy except in some minds. Again, I am not a jj fan but he gives us the best opportunity to win out of the LSU quarterbacks on the team. Coach Miles gave jl a chance and when he had the chance he did good but jl is not a good quarterback same as jj. jj is more athletic and right now jj gives LSU the best option to beat Bama. I believe as a person jj is a piece of sh-t. Coach Miles is a great coach and he understands that LSU needs jj to win the national championship game.

It's white vs black, south BR vs north BR, target vs piggly wiggly, St. Aloysius vs Crestworth Middle, stuffing vs dressing

This was early 1970's. It wouldn't have been a controversy if Jones hadn't pissed away the Orange Bowl coming in for an injured Buddy Lee. The perfect storm of upsets had happened all day. Orange Bowl was last game of the evening. Both locker rooms had been informed of the upsets and that whoever won the Orange Bowl was probably going to be NC by AP and UPI.

I don't think this is accurate. We had already lost two games in '70 (20-18 to TA&M and 3-0 to Notre Dame). We could've spoiled Nebraska's chances but we were not in the NC picture.

Now they have the opportunity to be the best combo of QB's ever at LSU for one season! It was never really a 2 QB system but it turned out that way. Congrats to JJ and JL!

Woodley was more mobile and Ensminger could throw better... Oh by the way we won the SEC and went to the Orange Bowl that year. Not bad.

I think the Orange Bowl in 1974 had Mike Miley as QB, Ensminger and Woodley never saw the field that year.

No, that was accurate due to the rash of upsets that day. AP was going to make the victor of the Orange Bowl their NC. Nebraska won it. Due to our losing that one as well as the regular season record, we fell pretty good. However, for a few brief moments the window was open for us. We just couldn't capitalize on it. Unfortunately, the Alexandria Town Talk does not go back that far, but Bill Carter was then the lead LSU writer for the ADTT, and the information came from his writings.
