If not Kiel, we'll get Alford. I love Alford's game. Either way, we're getting a baller.

Last thing I heard was that he canceled his Vandy visit last weekend, which seems like a good thing on the surface. He's supposed to visit ND this weekend. If he doesn't make it, it looks real good for us, but still plans on going. There probably won't be much info but rumors, as he's deciding soon.

If LSU somehow got Keil, they would be scary lethal on offense in 2-3 years.

he was at Vandy this past weekend.. Attended a bowl bid party.. said "this is awesome!" (because Vandy is going to the toilet bowl?!)
scheduled for ND this weekend - during exam week. The Irish are excited..
Decision in the next couple of weeks... I think Les has been setting the table specifically for Kiel with all his talk about freshman playing time, and I hope it works. Would be an excellent fit.

He is hard to get a read on. But it wouldn't surprise me if he still picks ND. Distance seems to be a big thing with this guy...one reason he picked Indiana first.

ND definitely has the edge on education, but I think once he visited LSU he realized he could get a quality education here as well. That combined with the game environment is what brought him back to campus.
Obviously LSU has the advantage in quality of the football program. He would likely be the front runner to start in 2 years when Mett leaves, and we will be NC contenders every year. With the talent we currently, having a QB like Keil would bring LSU to amazing heights...and Keil has likely realized that. Obviously ND's future is not so certain.
The only area ND really has an advantage in is location. South Bend is about 6 hours away from Colombus. Baton Rouge is 10 or 11. However, I dont think traveling would be a problem for his parents financially.

Does anyone know if hes related to the QB Blair Keil who played for ND and as a backup for the Colts years back? If so, Gunner comes from a great football family.

Twitter abuzz with unconfirmed (probably false) reports that Gunner Kiel is in Lawrence, KS attending Jayhawks BBall game where Charlie Weis is being introduced new FBall coach. Weis is reported to be good friends with Blair Kiel, Gunner's uncle and former ND QB.

Didn't Keil want to be an EE? Wouldn't that mean he would have to pick today?
Any updates? I wold think that him not enrolling early would favor LSU.

Just a little tidbit on Kiel, not much new...

Kiel, who accepted the Indianapolis Star Indiana Mr. Football trophy at Tuesday’s Columbus North-Columbus East boys basketball game, said he wanted to make an announcement at the game, but “couldn’t make a decision.”
“It’ll be a gut feeling,” said Kiel, who was at one time committed to Indiana. “It’s been a very hard decision.”
quote:
Kiel said he has no more college visits planned and that he’d “sit down with my family and make a decision soon.” Columbus East students chanted “LSU” as Kiel accepted the trophy.

If we are lucky enough to get Kiel, does either Randall or Rivers think about transferring?

So... what is this about?
So... what is this about?
quote:
But the folks at the Champs Sports Bowl, where ND (8-4) plays No. 25 Florida State (8-4) on Dec. 29, wanted Kelly in Orlando, Fla., Wednesday afternoon at 2, to speak and pose for pictures. So he flew from South Bend to central Florida, looked pretty for 90 minutes, got back on a university plane to South Bend at 3:30 p.m., dropped off a passenger in South Bend at 5:30, then picked up another passenger and flew to Chicago's Midway Airport.
After fighting traffic to get downtown, Kelly schmoozed, spoke and swiftly exited to head back to Midway and eventually to South Bend. By Thursday night, he was full throttle into recruiting, hosting five-star quarterback prospect Gunner Kiel.

Who is Gunner Kiel? Is he a baseball player or something?
