Here you go again with "the truth", or is it your opinion? Or facts? There's quite a difference, bro. Don't be mad. The above "beliefs" are what the post-60 crowd still hold onto; let them go.
So you think the media does gives LSU due respect or will at some point?
For someone being so critical, you did a poor job of making much of a counterpoint. Were you just trying to be witty?

Last night Mark May said LSU's defensive backfield is the best in the last 10 years.
I agree with Tiger88 about the old timer and the negatigers thinking we are in a state of perpetual disrespect or that we don't know our place.
Bama built a dynasty and tradition over time just like any other program. With many wins, championships and some mythical type coach, not with market share and media love.
LSU is in it's golden age, and all children and young men who watch this program and are interested in football will forever have respect for LSU. The 40+ year old men don't see LSU as the traditional power because they grew up with LSU in mediocrity. LSU is building it's dynasty.
If LSU reels off 3-5 championships over the next 2 decades, LSU will wedge a spot within the media's elite, historical programs.
And Market share? LSU's market now extends from Houston to New Orleans and the Ms gulf coast and North into BR and Shreveport. This market is no small potatoes. While it will never be Dallas, NY, L.A., Chicago, Boston, or Miami, it is not the surrounding Tuscaloosa or Norman market.
IMO, This OP sounds like someone who says, "that's not in my job description" to a co-worker or boss.
I am glad that Tyrann Mathieu didn't just accept his PLACE in football as being undersized and incapable of succeeding in CFB.
I will never "know my place." Because I am of the opinion that you should ALWAYS set your goals high and expect to achieve them.

12/3 Addition: Our Coach...The Man, The Myth, Les Miles.
In my original rant above, I stated I had more to share but didn't have time to type it out. You know, work and family obligations and all.
One of the other points I wanted to add was our Coach, good ole Lester (yes, a-holes, I know his name is Leslie).
Our coach is different in the fact that the media folks still don't know quite how to handle him. I believe it was one of the good ole boys at ESPN that gave him the "Mad Hatter" nickname, I'm not sure. Either way, you can tell Miles really doesn't think too much of that moniker.
Another poster, on page 4, really summed up Miles perfectly. Pretty much said it the same way I was going to, but added the Patton analogy to top it off. Cajun Tifoso wrote:
"But, then comes in Les and his boys. They are unconventional, go against common football wisdom, entertaining as hell, loves his players as people (and not as tools) and generally, I believe, loves the game of football. For Les, and what he tries to instill in his players is, this is all just a game. Enjoy it and have fun. Be crazy when you need to be. Think outside the box and disregard common wisdom. Go with works. These are attitudes that are foreign to many of these talking heads. They cannot predict what Les is going to do, so they cannot pass themselves off as experts by having their predictions confirmed. When Les does something a little crazy - and it works - he is only being lucky. When he does it fifty times - and it works - he is being really lucky. The "experts" know how the game should be played. When Les does what they expect, he is smart. When he doesn't, he is just lucky.
There is old story about how the Germans in World War II hated Patton because he did not follow the normal rules of strategy and attack. That he was good at it was irrelevent. He was wrong because he didn't follow the rules they all lived by. It is the same situation with ESPN. Rather than admit that Les is a genius and they may not be as smart as they advertise themselves to be, they never give him, and the team, the credit they deserve. It is easier to laugh at or criticize LSU than admit they were wrong. If their prediction is wrong, they can always say "the Mad-Hater pulled out another one"
This is dead accurate. I'll take it up a notch as well:
Les is also not a useful idiot for the boys in the media as well.
For example, after LSU beat Bama, Les was asked if he would play them again. He stated, "I would be honored to play a team like Alabama again". How many other coaches in this situation, with all their team has on the line, would say this? Not many, if any.
Also, you don't see Les on TV whining constantly for his team, a la Pete Carrol and soon to be Nick Saban. Les, when he had a chance to do some serious bidding in 2007 after the false reporting before and after the SEC Championship, never once opined on national TV a la Bob Stoops, Mark Richt, etc, that his team deserved to be in the BCSNCG.
The media loves to whine, and boy do they love it when one of their darlings whines with them. With Les, they know two things for sure:
1) They know they have no clue what he will do next, just as Cajun Tifoso stated AND
2) He won't join in any reindeer games of pepetual bitching, moaning and whining over something his team didn't earn.
Sure, they will invite him on Sportcenter to make commercials about eating grass. Those are cute and play into the wild personality they like to portray. He's a character to them. Yet every weekend, without fail, another "genius" coach has to meet him at midfield and conceed defeat.
I admit, as an LSU fan I was guilty early on of helping the media with their "want" to point out the flaws of the man. Every time fans criticized him early on, that helped fueled that fire whether or not we knew it. Now, even his greatest detractors have no choice: you have to love him. He will be here for a long time, and if he wins out, he WILL be the best coach in LSU history. That's right, better than Saban, the man turned media puppet that will be on Gameday later today having his arse kissed while his great team doesn't even play in the SECCG. You know this fact eats the guys up at ESPN and it has to bother Saban as well, considering the fact that he feels all of this, despite his departure SIX LONG YEARS AGO, is still because of him.

not two decades.
Yet, today, ESPN will dedicate Gameday to kissing Bama's arse.

Why? Baton Rouge. That's why. We are poor, podunk Southerners in a state in the union whose only claim to fame when it comes to jobs, education, quality of living is that "well, at least we aren't Mississippi". Sorry, this is the truth. Because of this, the media will never put us on the same level as the traditional powers. Our market is much too small. If your job is to sell papers, will you market your story to 500,000 readers, or millions? Yeah, we all love football, but we love money more.
I have said this forever, only people that live here give a shite about it

So, you "know your place," but you don't know the coaches name.
Interesting.

I had the honor of being on of the first people to meet Leslie in his office after he was hired in 2005. I know the man's name.
I said "Lester" because I've heard him referred to as Lester during highlight reels or halftime discussions.
