"Tradition", BHP.

Remember, they've won 13, 14 or 21 titles. I can't keep count and neither can they.

LOLOLOLOLOL

That's what keeps them "ahead".

Oh, and the Bear coached there.

More tradition than LSU....(at least that's what you are supposed to believe).

Hope that helps my friend.

Bingo. If and when you know "your place" is clearly at the top of the heap, it's okay to act like it. Part of doing so will often mean, not giving a shite about anything else.

wonderful philosophy and i understand, burt that's not what i gleaned from the original post. I never did or will give a hoot about the Notre Dames, Texas', USC'....I guess that's my "place"

Its not like the analyst make more money if they pick big market teams.

I disagree. Plenty of LSU fans don't watch ESPN because of the perceived "anti-LSU" bias, and it doesn't hurt ESPN much because the viewing market is several million people.

If ESPN were to disregard or disrespect USC football or UCLA basketball the way they allegedly do LSU, they would risk causing a similar outcome; i.e. Offending the fan base, the only difference being that those teams have many times the viewing market. It would be poor economics for them to play to the small market teams and alienate the big market teams.

Also keep in mind that ESPN caters to the 4 or 5 biggest markets in each sport. Total, across all sports they are "biased" toward dozens of teams, but in any one sport it is only towards a few, so if you look at it with narrow vision you see bias, but if you look at the big picture you realize they are doing what a good economist would advise them to do.. Target the biggest markets.

It sucks, but it is what it is. If you don't like it, there are plenty of other options. I personally read sports news, listen to SVP and Moscona, and go to the games.

It seems to me that you have low self esteem. Media is looking for markets, they don't look for specific teams and given the attractiveness of SEC markets, LSU gets a lot of love. All other no football related stuff that you mentioned applies to Alabama and most other SEC schools so the can not be the reason for lack of love.

Soooo...the "Baton Rouge is small, podunk, southern" is NOT the reason for the perceived lack of respect?

I'm not sure what you are saying.

The statement was 'we lack because of X'. I show an example of 'X'. And, you say, well, its because of Y that X does not apply.

Bama and LSU are both podunk.

Bama overcomes podunk (at least in comparison to LSU) because of "tradition" (perceived or otherwise - although I think the point is, is that perception is all that matters, at least with regard to what he's getting at).

1) QUIT WATCHING ESPN outside of game broadcasts. ESPN is there to make money, not support a podunk BR media market. I quit watching Gameday in 2003. You should too. ESPN's commentary is like the nightly news: I know what they will say before they say it.

Definitely agree with this. It is really hard to watch ESPN anymore because they are so damn biased and its obvious. The College Football analysts are the worst. I would say Jesse Palmer is the only one on ESPN that is usually pretty objective.

And I know I am a Saints homer, but the lack of discussion/respect that Drew Brees gets from ESPN "experts" compared to Aaron Rodgers is ridiculous. Yea AR is having a great season, but Brees has been better than him this year and been doing it since 06.

I have a smaller message. There was a memorable line in the movie Remember the Titans. The white coach in charge of the defense tells the black head coach "Leave no doubt!!" Win the respect on the field by beating the crap out of everybody you play. No whining about beating Bama twice. Just play your best and try to hang 50 on them if you can. Be the first team to get 3 crystal footballs and then add a 4th next year. Then they will truly Remember the Tigers (Titans).

Great stuff here. I can think of one exception to the rule and that is Miami. Miami is a private school that did not have nearly the histoy of LSU. 5 titles over a 25 year period and "new money" gets respect. Florida St. is close to that as well. The state of Florida has lots of tv sets (and I know it proves the podunk Baton Rouge theory), but Miami is a private school with no real history prior to 1980.

LSU can be a program that can hang 4 or 5 titles over the 25 year period (esp if we get a 3rd this year). The old guard eventually dies off. Many of us have kids that don't know what it's like for LSU to stink. Sustained success and championships over a 25 to 30 year period is the way to break through.

Remember, there was a time when schools like Minnesota were considered elite. Today that is absolutely laughable. LSU needs to keep winning big.

Overall, I fully understand and agree with your overriding point about the entitled class.

Noticed some of this at the few Notre Dame games I've attended but underneath it all they are envious of our success. Your BCS hypocrisy post was terrific, this one though is way too pessimistic.

The reason the media 'Hates LSU' is because when you have a dozen channels to fill 24/7 nobody wants to hear the story called, "HOLY CRAP IS LSU EVER GONNA KILL 'X' THIS WEEKEND JUST LIKE LAST WEEK"

That's not entertaining. What's entertaining is upsets. Underdog stories. Here's how it could happen stories. That kinda shite is wide open. Reality is boring. Speculation and hype is where the money's at.

And they make a conscious decision to play those angles all week because that's what people OTHER THAN WHOEVER IS ON TOP want to see. And since whoever is on top is a small percentage of the viewers vs everyone else, take a big ole guess who they are going to cater to.

'KNOW YOUR PLACE' is simply insecurity. We need to outgrow that. Our 'place' is whipping asses every weekend no matter what people say or want to believe. Plain and simple. We aren't Alabama's poor cousin. We aren't lucky. We are LSU. And LSU will skullfrick your head in if you dare set foot on the field with us.

i think your points are valid, I do hope that if we execute this year and next..... realistically able to repeat as champions, we will make a rather significant dent in the larger historical perspective.... maybe not.... there is a lot of what have you done today that is taken into perspective... look at Florida's past run....
