If Texas/Oklahoma/USC/OhioState were in Oklahoma State's position...

(1 loss, conference champion after win Saturday, only one undefeated major team in LSU)
Would there even be a debate over who was #2 this Sunday?
Basically, plug any one of those teams into Oklahoma State's position, and who comes out #2 Sunday?

No. Can add Florida St and Notre Dame to that list also.

Nope. Part of oSu's problem is perception.
The aforementioned teams all have a "football pedigree" and oSu is CFB nouveau riche.

not a chance, i tried to make a thread about this awhile back that got kind of overlooked.
also replace bama with moo state or arky and there is no talk of a rematch

It's called benefit of the doubt.
But even then, it couldn't be a bad bad loss perception-wise. Oregon State (which was never viewed favorable outside of the Pac) hurt USC's chances for the title game in the past.
Just like Iowa State is considered a real dog. If USC loses to ASU/Cal - middle of the road teams. No problem. Same with Ohio State losing to Purdue.

I absolutely agree.
I hate talking about this stuff before LSU's game because LSU still has it's own conference to win, but it's fun to speculate so here goes...
The major flaw in the system is if Bama were to get in over another conference champion it wouldn't make sense. Especially if they beat LSU. Think about it. Bama is National Champions, but they aren't even the SEC champions.
People wanting to compare this to the NFL, just stop. I know that teams win Super Bowls even though they do not win their own divisions. But there is no playoff in CFB to compare it to the NFL!!. Even if there was a playoff, Bama would be forced most likely to play an extra game, or at least go on the road to get to the big game. So it's not comparable in the least bit.
Please note though: I'm just stating what's wrong with the system, and I prefer to play Bama. I don't want the talking heads to have any ammo to discredit LSU in any way if we were to claim the NC like they have in every previous NC season.

We actually almost got to see this if Oklahoma had beaten baylor .
Oklahoma would be guaranteed a bcs ncg spot despite their home loss to Texas tech
and okie st loses on the road to a team with a winning record and they are getting ignored
welcome to the bullshite that is college football

Great point...It was widely speculated that OU would indeed hop Bama had they won out. So why doesn't OSU get the same amount of people beating their drum??

I keep seeing this and probably from the same posters who ridiculed Arkansas up and down for barely escaping Vanderbilt, who'll end up with the same record as Iowa St and is certainly no worse.
If Alabama's 1 loss was to Vandy and Oklahoma St's 1 loss to Oklahoma, I doubt you'd have the almost unanimous vote for them at #2.

All six of the computers rank Iowa State significantly higher than Vanderbilt.

And that's worth Oklahoma State's high computer rantings and that's about it. Well, aside from being another reason so many look at those computer rankings with a grain of salt.
They also had Wake Forest over Vanderbilt last week and the computer logic is circular anyway: if Vandy had beaten Bama, then they'd be ranked better in the computers, no?
I sure as hell wouldn't bet a penny of my money on Iowa St beating Vanderbilt.
How confident would you be? Seriously?

I'm only refuting your assertion that Vanderbilt = Iowa State. The computers that the 11 conference commissioners trust for the BCS rankings say that Iowa State > Vanderbilt, and that's a fact.

The only way to prove that LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in college football is to let LSU play Oklahoma State for the national championship.
Think about it. It makes sense.

Vanderbilt = Iowa State
Iowa State has better numbers because they've lost to more teams the computer also ranks highly. But they usually lost by about 20 points to any decent team they've played (which, unfortunately, only humans are allowed to analyze). . . Not to mention the bump they get from beating Oklahoma State in the shocking no show game of the season for a highly ranked team.
Other than that they have a pretty decent OT home win over Iowa.
You don't think if computers could count margin of victory that a 52-17 loss to Missouri wouldn't hurt them? Or their big 13-10 home win over Kansas and or outlasting Northern Iowa in that 20-19 slugfest, also at home?
Vanderbilt and Iowa State both beat UCONN: 24-21 and 24-20.
1000 computers computing won't change those facts.
Iowa St = Vanderbilt.

Yep.

And if LSU whips Okie State, then LSU will finish #1 and Bama can finish #2 and they can't complain because they had their chance and lost to #1.
Done and done. BCS works again.
