Anyone ever build a wooden Pirogue?

I use a pirogue that my great grandfather in law built in the 40s. It's too damn heavy, but it's cool because I use it to hunt his old property.

Seriously... take a look at those plans I posted. two sheet of marine plywood, and a skill saw. If you can cut a straight line, you can make one of these.

I bet it weights less than 40lbs when its finished.

The guy on the site in my OP says he built a 14' that can hold 336 lbs.

It doesn't say for their canoes for some reason. The rowboat I built would hold 400lbs easy. It was a little shorter and a little wider than that canoe.

They've got similar plans for longer and different style canoes, sailboats, etc.

I knew this would be coming...

I helped a grandpa and an uncle build one when I was 11.
I didn't do much but it was a great pirogue. That grandpa introduced me to hunting and fishing- was killed a year later.


Used until I was in college

Had it tied up in the back of me truck one night before going hunting pirogue not there in morning-it was like an old friend had died.....

Bout 4 years later when they cleared an empty lot around the corner - the termite and rodent devoured shell was there-

Found out later that day fella down th street put it there-

Fishfighter, you wouldnt have the same sort of post of informative guide for a pirogue with about a 16inch square back. I have one that is pointed on both sides, but would love to build a small skift that i could put a trolling motor on.
