I went to a screening on Sunday of this movie that comes out on Christmas Day. The cool part was that Speilberg held a Q&A after via web. There were 5 locations across the country that held screenings. It lasted a little long (1.5 hours)but it was very helpful to understand why he chose the project and also the technical difficulties of making a movie whose main character is a horse.
It is rated PG13 and I beleive it will follow the tradition of making tons of money like most of his films do.
The only weird part for me was the end. It was a little to Wizard of Ozish with the colors.

two thumbs up. CSB

How prominent is World War I in the film and are the battle scenes any good?

The only way I can see this movie being any good is if the horse could talk and rode off in to the sky with ET on his it's back.

WWI is prominent but from a technology standpoint. It shows the transition from horses to machinery. The battle scenes are not a big player. He said he did not make it like the other war movies because he wanted to maintain the PG13 rating and the horse is the story, not the war.

I'm sure it's a well-made movie like most Spielberg films are, but I have absolutely zero interest in watching this.

I'm probably going to cry

Different than the book because it's not told from the horse's point of view, correct?

Aspy, from what I understand, it's not from the horse's POV.

I wish I was Spielberg's daughter. You know he bought her Rumba??

Hollywood keeps churning out all these horse movies that I have no interest in - Seabiscuit, Secretariat, War Horse, Sarah Jessica Parker movies.

Wasn't this a book or play first?

I saw the play in London a year or so ago. It was incredible to watch. The way the puppeteers manipulated the horses was so realistic you forgot they were puppets. Heck it took like 4 people to operate just one horse.

For me, it'll be tough to beat the live performance, but I'll still probably watch it and compare

Correct, it follows the horse, but we never get to know what the horse is thinking and the horse does not wink or anything.
