Forget the side-by-side comparisons, strength of schedule, better resumes, "they had their shot," didn't win their division, will play one less game, blah blah blah. At the end of the day the two best teams in the country should play in the BCSNCG.

It's an accepted "Fact" that LSU is the best team in the country. It only stands to reason that another team, with almost identical margins of victories against common oppenents, whose only loss was to LSU in a game in which they OUTGAINED LSU, missed 4 FG's, and lost in overtime would be the 2nd best team.

This isn't Ohio St.-Michigan from a few years ago. This is the SEC. 5 straight titles. The unquestioned, inarguable greatest conference in college football. Undefeated in BCSNCG's.

If Bama was in the Big 12, ACC, PAC12, Big10, Big East or any other conference they would be undefeated.

Do we penalize Bama because they happen to play in the same division of the same conference as LSU? The two best teams should play.

They already have. And there was an outcome.

In this case they should be. I don't quite follow how a team that loses at home vs. a team that's been ranked above them all season, let alone didn't win the west, didn't win the SEC but they're going to just be "awarded" a trip to the BCS NG?

It makes no freaking sense. If it were any other team other than Bama, they wouldn't be getting all this exposure.

Bama had their shot. They lost. Go to the Sugar Bowl.

No, I'm going to forget the fact that we've already beaten them. There might be more of an argument if we were talking about a team from the east but wake up.

OUTGAINED LSU,

So did Oregon and West Virginia. Know why? We had short fields due to our superior special teams. Same with Bama.

missed 4 FG's

Missed 3 that were outside of your kicker's range. Your head coach should have punted for field position. The 3rd was blocked by LSU.

and lost in overtime would be the 2nd best team.

More like quit in regulation and imploded in overtime. But, of course, LSU's defense had nothing to do with that did it?

We beat you IN YOUR HOUSE. How about we let someone who has a better resume take a shot at the Big Dog.

What you really meant to say was that the two best teams should play twice. But then you forgot.

We penalize Bama because Bama LOST to LSU.

Hey genro.

Say bama was in the east and undefeated at this point.

LSU and Bama play in the championship and LSU wins in the EXACT same fashion as previously..

Does Bama still get to play in the championship game?

Would LSU if the roles were reversed?

Translation: ignore all these pesky things that are used to compare two teams bc they don't favor bama.

How about if the two best teams already played? That is the point most people are missing or pretend to be missing.

Are you trying to make an argument for OSU?

OSU if they win against Oklahoma will have a better record against tougher competition than Alabama.

Keep those stats handy......you'll need to recall those in ten years to continue validating Bamas loss to LSU.

Kent State, North Texas, Georgia Southern, were of course very soft out of conference football team that this years Alabama team played. Penn State was pointed out to to be a strong opponent. Wiscongin 45 vs Penn State 7.

09/24/11 vs. Arkansas * TV Tuscaloosa, Ala. W, 38-14
10/01/11 at Florida * TV Gainesville, Fla. W, 38-10
10/08/11 vs. Vanderbilt * TV Tuscaloosa, Ala. W, 34-0
10/15/11 at Ole Miss * TV Oxford, Miss. W, 52-7
10/22/11 vs. Tennessee * TV Tuscaloosa, Ala. W, 37-6
11/05/11 vs. LSU * TV Tuscaloosa, Ala. L, 9-6
11/12/11 at Mississippi State * TV Starkville, Miss. W, 24-7
11/19/11 vs. Georgia Southern TV Tuscaloosa, Ala. W, 45-21
11/26/11 at Auburn * TV Auburn, Ala. W, 42-14
That is the body of work the ESPN Network thinks is the hands down # 2 college football team in our country. And Alabama gets to stay home because this bama team lost to LSU 9-6 in Bryant Dinnie Stadium Tuscaloosa Alabama.
Is ESPN playing the United States college football fans for a bunch of chumps?

Agree with this.

Disagree with this. The voters have to use some objective criteria to determine how they should rank teams. Head to head is one but SOS is too if not why should a Houston team an undefeated Houston team not get a shot?

I am not saying I would not vote Bama 2 today if I had a vote but it it lunacy to suggest that voters should replace whatever criteria they believe is correct to determine who should be #2 and replace it with your because because you watched the first game and it is your impression that everyone believes Bama is 2.

How bout we just let the voters vote their according to their own values and criteria?

to the OP YES, penalize Bama because they did not play a tough schedule. OSU and maybe even VT could get over you if the season results are analyzed. Also 12 wins greater than 11 wins, SOS is a consideration, but not the end all be all, it is the wins and even a title of champion that carries more weight than a #3 conference finish.

It's an accepted "Fact" that LSU is the best team in the country.

Not according to T Richardson...comments in B'ham news today, after the Auburn game..per Richardson's quote: "WE (Ala.) are the ELITE team in the conference. LSU is good, but we are gooder."...this is the guy you think should get the HEISMAN.... ..what a classless asswipe...

I don't doubt that Bama is the 2nd best team in CFB right now, but I also don't think it's very fair for one team to have to risk playing a conference title game while the other is in the BCS National Championship game already regardless of the outcome. If God forbid LSU loses that game and is dropped to #3 in the BCS Standings and misses the BCSNC Game and Alabama is in that would be a travesty for both LSU and the BCS without question.

I'm still baffled by how you can say:

quote:

a game in which they OUTGAINED LSU, missed 4 FG's, and lost in overtime would be the 2nd best team.

Bama outgained LSU between the 30's, but couldn't get any closer than the 35. Once you reached that point in the field you self destructed, and we stopped you, just like in overtime, with one dropped pass, one overthrown pass, and an LSU sack, then a missed field goal from 50 + yards out due to the stout defense.

NOTE: When LSU got the ball in OT we drove it to the 5 and mad a chip shot field goal.

THAT'S WHAT CHAMPIONS DO. THEY EXECUTE AND DOMINATE IN CRUNCH TIME.

Bama is not a Champion this year, not even in their division of the SEC. See you next year in Tiger Stadium.
