Coming from 2010 to 2011, what's made your defense that much better? Which players, specifically, are playing now and how much of an impact do you think their presence has improved your defense? What has changed in terms of scheme?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Chavis's system is fully engrained with players that he recruited for it.

Kragthorpe
Seriously, having Montgomery back is huge. Brockers and Logan have stepped up in the middle.
Another year of seasoning for the DB's who were already good. That sophmore class with Reid, Mathieu, are Tharold Simon are special.

Secondary has been making some huge plays, DL overall better than last year as well. Haven't checked the stats, but certainly seems like more pass rush.

Reid at FS. Brandon Talor did not play last year vs Ark, he is a 3 year starter. Simon (SO) is doing very well at the #3 corner and Brooks (SR) is very good and has outshined Mathieu the last few games. LB play is about the same. DL is better with pash rushers Mingo (SO) and Montgomery (SO) who also didnt play vs Ark last year, due to injury.

You know that safety #37 that won the game for y'all last year? Well he's not a safety anymore.

defensive line as a whole is a lot more healthier(sam montgomery)-getting much more pressure.
playing smart, not over pursuing, our linebackers have been for the most part been very discipline. takling is better. less busted coverages (understanding of assignments under the chiefs def schemes)

Many of them are more experienced, older, bigger, and stronger.
There are more of them - fatigue is not a factor.
They have stayed healthy for the most part(lost 99 early last year)
Our weakest links(LBs) are more easily hidden by excellent front 4 and secondary.

Hormone enemas and plyometrics that are loosely based on the Kama Sutra, but instead of a lady you use a wheelbarrow of kettlebells.
I also think feeding Sonic Sam like a ball python has really paid dividends in the TFL column.

Preparation for Oregon has made this a better defense.
Along with Sam Montgomery, Freak, Simon, Taj Jones, etc. being in the line up

Montgomery and Brandon Taylor are back healthy again. Chavis had another off season to teach his defensive playbook. There is more depth along the defensive line. I would also venture to say that our defensive backs know the role of one another on every down, limiting breakdowns in coverage.

Hatcher not playing Safety. Reid Playing Safety. Taylor Playing Safety and much improved from last season. 17, 7, 24, 13 all playing at a much higher level than last year. Montgomery playing past the 5th game of the season. Mingo coming into his own. Brockers playing like a beast. Baker playing better than last year.
Enough specific info?

Nothing was wrong with LSU's defense last year. We struggled moving the ball more against them than any other team we played.

Brandon Taylor (QB of the defense) missed the last half of the season last year.
Craig Loston and Tyrann have become full time starters.
Mo Claiborne has filled the role of PP7 nicely and I would argure that he is a better cover guy than Patrick was.
The defenseive line has a host of new player that start and rotate. LaVar Edwards who started last year, doesn't start this year and we have a TEN man rotation on the DL.
Overall we have many of the same players from last year, but last year they were freshman and sophomores. This year they are sophmores and juniors. Next year, our defense may be better than this year.

a year of playing time. and i think mo, as far as pure technique, is a little better cover corner than pp7.
sam montgomry makes a big difference too.
