To Avoid Rematch: VT is the Key

Under the assumptions (a) we win out, (b) Oklahoma beats Iowa State this weekend, (c) Oklahoma State wins Bedlam; then VT becomes the key. VT has ZERO chance of making the Title Game because of their computer rankings, but they do have the chance to take votes away from OSU trying to catch Bama.

Example:
Anti-rematch voter has: 1) LSU 2) OSU 3) Bama 4) VT
-This would be like 1 vote for OSU over Bama
SEC homer voter has: 1) LSU 2) Bama 3) VT 4) OSU
-This would be like 2 votes for Bama over OSU

What I’m saying is that pro-Bama voters may have ballots that essentially are worth more than anti-rematch voters because no one will put Bama below 3, but it is possible for VT to wedge in between Bama and OSU on the pro-Bama ballots.

I will GUARANTEE that if the above three assumptions take place AND VT loses to either UVA or Clemson that OSU will make the BCSNC over Bama because:
- They will be a unanimous #2 in the computers (almost already are)
- They will have played on the final weekend of the season while Bama sat at home
- They will be a conference champion (not required, but is significant to many voters)
- They will have not played LSU (many voters are anti-rematch)

Voters have shown they are willing change their order on the last weekend (’06 and ’07) and there are more regions of this country that are anti-SEC than pro-SEC.

Cliffs Notes: The key to avoiding rematch is VT losing. If it becomes a one-on-one comparison between Bama and OSU, the Pokes will prevail. If it remains a jumbled mess, the Tide will get the nod.

I don't care if we play Bama again.

It will be at home. . .we already beat them in their house.

I like techs chances if osu does go down. UVA and Clemosn wins will only help them, plus 2 teams ahead of them would lose.

Their computers suck rt now, but that could all change with 2 solid wins.

Their computer ranking may well improve, but it would not pass Bama's. If you want to avoid a rematch, Oklahoma State is your only hope (outside of Bama losing the Iron Bowl).

Ya I like their chances if we lose to Arkansas, Arkansas loses to UGA, Oregon loses to Oregon State--kicking oregon out of the pac title game, Stanford loses to UCLA (or ariz state or utah in the Pac 12 title game, and OSU loses to OU.

Then their chances will just be stellar!

they are never getting to #2 in the computers.. so its not happening.

OSU is the only team with a chance to get in over Bama.

Agreed. Stanford is currently just a placeholder at #4/5 in the human polls. They will not get an opportunity to play December 3rd and will be passed up by Oklahoma State should they win Bedlam.

bama doesn't deserve a second chance, it's a lose-lose situation for LSU

No the frick they wont and its because the Big 12 doesnt play a conference championship game. Stanford has a good lead over Ok State in the polls and so does Bama, the rematch will happen if Stanford loses, Ok State doesnt even matter, they will be in the same spot as Bama except they will be conference champs but lost to an unranked team

Technically, no. They do, however, play a top 10 team with the Big XII Championship on the line a week after Bama is done playing.

Right now. The loss is still fresh. Should OSU win Bedlam, then the top 10 win would be fresh.

They currently have a better computer average than Bama AND still haven't even played their biggest game of the year yet. I'd say that matters.

See my list in the OP as to why OSU would have the advantage in this case.

I think under the likely scenario that Bama and LSU win out, there is almost no way to avoid the rematch.

I don't think the anti-rematch crowd is big enough and stubborn enough to believe that OSU is better than Bama. Since they'll both be one-loss, the decision will be that much easier.

Aside from this, I sometimes wonder if our best chance to win might be playing Bama anyway. Just like we did to UGA in 2003, but em once good, but em again real good.

An NCG win over Nick twice in one year is pure icing on the cake. It couldn't get any sweeter than that right there.

Plus, two wins over Bama would help vault this year's team into the GOAT discussion. Much more so than beating a non-traditional power like Okie State.
