BR Business Report highlighting Richard Lipsey as an entrepeneur...

I should listen to...
Am I wrong, or did this guy's Dad run an expansive Sporting Goods Store that he promptly drove straight into the ground once he took over?
The profile in BR Business Report even details that he went from $15 million in revenue to $2.5. Why do I want to listen to a guy who got handed the keys to a Lamborghini & promptly traded it in for a Volkswagen Passat?
This guy's living off family money and throws it around in a philanthropic manner, and they respond by calling him an enetrepeneur that we should listen to for stories about his success?
What's wrong with this picture?

does he buy a lot of advertising in Rolf's rag?
Ole Rolfie is a sham man. He constantly uses his bully pulpit to push more spending and "investment" in downtown yet invested his money for a building on Perkins where he promptly moved his business.
Yet another clown...

I'm pretty sure that's the Lipsey that owns that big gun distributor/wholesaler out fit in town. I would think he makes a pretty nice dime off of that.

Huh? He took an athletic goods store that was going under, restructured the business and has been successful.

He got into that business, which makes $2.5 million in revenue/year.
He got out of the sporting good business, which was making $15 million in revenue/year.
Its nice, but he effectively cut his paycheck 6-fold or so.
Oh, & Golfer, nobody'd ever heard of any problems at the store before Lipsey took it over. So the story about "restructuring" is sort've dubious as per what I've heard.
My point isn't to take personal shots at the guy so much as it is to take stock of what he's "accomplished" and then ask why would a local business rag include him in a section on entrepeneur's? What's he taken a chance on? What's he gone out on a limb for?
They're detailing guys who emmigrated from Columbia & built empires. Women who started commercial advertising firms off agreements signed on napkins in Fleur De Lis in the middle of large recessions.
Oh, and let's throw in a guy who got handed the keys to a large family fortune & a thriving family business, and call him an entrepeneur?
One of these things is not like the other, is what I'm trying to say.

Hey bud,
As far as I can tell, you know nothing of Richard Lipsey. He actually owns about 5 successful businesses now since the "Sporting Goods" store was closed down, which is now the "13th Gate." All I can say is that I know him really well and your not even close on these comments. Try to look up "LSU TOP 100" and that might tell you more about just 1 of his businesses.

So I just Googled it & LSU took the list down. It's a 404 on their website. Hey, I'm not saying he's doing very well with his business. I'm glad you know him well as a person. I'm just wondering if his family's money helped those businesses get off the ground, and whether he just "invested" in those businesses.
Or whether the guy had an idea & poured himself into said ideas and came up with the business on his own using his own talent & skills.
I don't view him on the same level as the others. My buddy has a successful business he built with his own two hands out of nothing. I repeat, NOTHING. Nothing was there except an education he received from a guy running the same kind of business who failed at it.
He went out on a limb with his own scratch & built it into a successful one-man operation. He had ZERO safety-net & was on his own. Still is.
If Lipsey lost his businesses tomorrow, I doubt he'd be hurting thanks to his trustafarian status. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing at all.
I just don't view him as an entrepreneur. I view him as someone whose invested family money into businesses. He's a bit of a venture capitalist, in other words.
