What are nice hotel bars in the FQ?

Taking the wife out to a nice dinner in NO for her birthday, but then am having some friends and family meet up with us afterwards for drinks as a surprise. Figured the best place for something like this would be at a nice hotel bar somewhere. We're staying in the heart of the FQ, so preferably somewhere around there.

Nice open bar at the Ritz-Carlton just off the lobby and their French Quarter Bar as well have been good to us. Not sure why it has to be a hotel bar but the relatively new HERMES bar at Antoines is GREAT and the apps a well as deserts are something to write home about too.

Carrousel Bar at Monteleone...
Only problem is they are remodeling so 60% of the capacity is closed off.

Some good ones have been mentioned. I'll add the Davenport Lounge, Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse and Bar Uncommon. The last two have some of the best mixologists in town.

The Carousel Bar at Monteleone hotel(FQ)
whatever that bar is in the Ritz Carleton(FQ)
Loa at International House hotel (not in FQ)
The bar at Loew's hotel has a redheaded lady bartender that makes FANTASTIC drinks.

I always enjoy French 75 next to Arnaud's. It's not a hotel bar, but probably fits the bill for what you're looking for.

Its sad that the bartending profession has sunk so low that ones who can actually make drinks have to call themselves by a different name

No, what is sad is that someone that can pour a beer or a high ball is called a bartender instead of a monkey with a bit of training.
