Not true. Saban has always, for whatever reason, been considered the Golden Boy of college football. Even as far back as the time LSU played Mich St in the Indy Bowl, there was a lot of media love for Saban (where he was the coach at the time), to the point of where it was extremely annoying. I remember saying "gee, what a genius the guy is" while Dinardo's Tigers kicked the shite out of them. In retrospect, that game may have convinced him to come down here when he got the chance.

But the point of my response- Saban has been spoken of in reverential tones his entire career.

Actually no, Miles is second only to Paterno as the most recognized college coaches. The media is fascinated by Miles, his idiosyncrasies, his trickery, his success, his mistakes that he always seems to rise above. Miles thrives off being underrated, he wants you to think "this clown can't beat me" but he does, look at his record here and at Okie St., he has always matched up even against with the best.

I don't care for the 'which is better' argument, LSU was brought to greatness by Mark Emmert, not Saban, Saban asked for things, Emmert made it happen. Saban is a whore, Miles wants to be here. I'd rather have Les any day.

If people favor a no nonsense a-hole who knows the game they will pick saban.

I favor a coach who gives LSU the best shot at dominance for many, many years. Therefore, Miles is the clear choice.

Recognized doesn't mean best...Most of the sports media has been shitting on Miles' head for the past 3 years. They have treated him like a walking punchline. That's why he's highly recongnized.

If it weren't for LSU's dominance on the field these talking heads would still be at it Miles-bashing.

This game and season has the potential to catapult Miles to the top of the SEC coaches pecking order.

A win in Tuscaloosa gives Miles a 3-2 advantage over Saban with the 'Gumps in BR next year to possibly go 4-2 against the 'best coach in the country'.

I truly believe that if LSU puts any kind of beat down on 'Bama in this game, Nicky will see the writing on the wall. LSU will be better next year. Look for him to start making a move after that to gauge is options.

I highly doubt you were wanting miles to come and replace saban.

Neither was on top of CFB, until they got to Louisiana and harnessed the talent . Props to New Orleans players and the Louisiana players and others that recognized.Grambling in their glory days, built a dynasty with them, and the core was NOLA player, credit to the coach , who was the main coach who would take a chance on them, can't remember his name. I see these 2 last LSU coaches know where the juice is at. And don't crowed the kid from St. Rose.

Of course not. But having watched Saban for many years now and also watching Miles for several years, I conclude that I would much rather have Miles leading my program than Saban. It's a well informed opinion based on many factors.
IMO, Miles >>> Saban because he provides more of a guarantee of long term success.

I am just saying if saban had never left miles would not be considered as one of the top coaches. And we would all still be praising saban.

ETA: aiight?

See, but that's exactly one of the reasons I put Miles ahead of Saban. Your "if" is a HUGE "if". Saban's MO has always been to jump at the next opportunity to feed his ego. That's one reason why a program is not guaranteed long term success with him at the helm.
And then it's not just the threat of leaving, it's his style that grates on his assistants, the media and even players over time. His style leads to an occasional lackluster effort against an inferior team.

Now if he stays at bama till retirement, then we'll see how dominant they are over the long run. I would just put my money with Miles and enjoy the ride.

I hope people realize, LSU has a realistic chance to string along multiple championships right now. It's quite possible Miles could go down as one of the all time greats. Of course, time will only tell, but he is building a powerhouse right now.

So yes, I hated to see Saban leave. But I'm thankful we got Miles. And right now, if I had the choice, I'd take Miles.

ScoopandScore, that couldn't have been said any better. TWT, will break what you said down and try his best to sound superior to you, but you nailed it. Major Props bro.

I admit I wasn't until last year but now I support him as much if not more than I did saban.

Wow someone with some actual good sense. Most college football fans including LSU fans think Miles is crazy and lucky. Luck wins you one or two games that you shouldn't it doesn't give you a 80% winning percentage.

I believed he was crazy and lucky last year, like many of you, and I still do think he's lucky, but who cares what the hell it is as long as you win. Miles convincing people he's crazy is a trick. I refuse to fall for it again.

This insinuation holds little water. Can you n ame ONE lateral move Saban has ever made? Before Alabama, Saban was merely climbing the coaching ladder like everyone else. The NFL was a bad fit for him, so he dropped back down to the college ranks, where he has stayed. Where the hell else would he go besides retirement? I understand your butt hurt that Saban left. I'll cry like a little girl and kick my dog when he leaves, but the only place he's going after Alabama is to the lake.

WTF?

Go to my first post in this thread. I said both were the best but with different styles.

I have no hard feelings toward saban which I can't comprehend why any tiger fan would have any animosity towards him. We sucked almost the entire decade of the 90's. Sure Dinardo came her and did some great things but then sucked for 2 years getting fired. Saban came in and the rest is history, elevated and sustained our program to a level it has never been. Miles has continued and even improved on what Saban started. Who would have ever thought when Florida was blowing us out every year we would have 2 national titles over the next 10-12 years?...and possibly a 3rd this year.

Give the man his respect. And hate him when we play Bama.

Been a Tiger fan since early 70's. I'd have to say this has been a great decade of LSU Football.

Same here. It has been beyond my wildest dreams so far. If it survives past the Bama game, I don't think this LSU team will lose this year. They are that confident and good.

How special has LSU football been since 2000?

No team in BCS football has a better combo of wins/BCS titles than LSU since 2000.

What more is there to say bout the excellence of LSU football?
