The only, and I mean only, thing it has in common with the other umpteen Halloween movies is that it takes place on or near halloween.

Supposedly, the Halloween "franchise" was not supposed to be centered on Michael Myers, but was supposed to be a series of creepy/horror movies all centered around Halloween. When Halloween became such a hit, and II also did well, the focus of the studio turned to that, but SOTW was already in the hopper.

Plus, the bad guys won.

Plus out of the clear blue and with zero explanation, they had androids.
