We encountered the same F-U fans 20-somethings....not very creative....Had a blast tailgating with the WVU fans in the blue lot on Saturday....When told about the F-U fans, to a person, they said, "Oh, those are the kids from Jersey." Seems they have a large population from the "Garden" State....spray tans and all....

I agree with everything you posted. Had very similar experiences. We went out to eat Friday and the restaurant manager was very friendly and excited about the business the LSU fans were bringing to the establishment. The entire town was crowded as hell and traffic sucked. Most of the older (30+) crowd were so friendly and welcoming. Anyone we encountered under that age were total asses. They seemed to hate the color purple (our jerseys, not the movie)and I heard lots of "F you" comments from just about every group we passed. Apparently the "LSU Who" taunt was new to them and they took to it like a Livingston parish boy takes to meth. They also seemed to think Florida was our biggest rival or something. We kept hearing "Gator bait" both before and after the game as we were walking back to our cars. I have finally found a place where post-game traffic is more of a cluster than LSU. It was ridiculous trying to get out of the tiny assed streets in the neighborhood surrounding the stadium. That being said, it was good to take a trip to a college game in a different region and see what it was like. Their fans seemed to really view this as a huge coup to get a team like LSU to their stadium and they were absolutely nuts over the Game Day broadcast. I definitely would not want them in the SEC and probably wouldn't go back, but it was fun fora once in a lifetime experience.

All the good stuff you said and the good time you had, and you end with this? The small group of young kids ruined the whole trip for you?

Threads like this make me not so proud to be a Mountaineer fan.

I have lived in West Virginia my entire life and am a grad student at WVU now. I go out all the time in Morgantown, and I never encounter idiots like the ones described in here. Everyone I tailgate with always embraces visiting fans and loves interacting with them.

Hope you guys don't judge the entire fan base based on these stories but definitely understand your concern.

I had a lot of fun in Morgantown but a lot of fans were not very nice. Not sure if anyone saw it but they cleared the walkway to the stadium next to the Blue Lot for the "Mountaineer Mantrip" and a few of us LSU fans went down that gauntlet telling the fans to give us their best shot. We had people coming up to us for the rest of the night saying that they had seen us earlier and were impressed that LSU fans were brave enough to deal with the heckling....They obviously have never been to Tuscaloosa or Gainesville before. They dont know SEC fans and it was a cakewalk to us haha. I put the video up on You Tube and I'm editing it bc for some reason it is sideways, so hopefully it will be fixed soon. its called "Mountaineer Mantrip invaded by brave LSU fans".At one point I was turned around and literally ran into Hall of Fame linebacker Darryl Talley. He was actually pretty cool and high fived us off camera. Cool story huh?

Couldn't sum it up better than that. Like you said, thought the town had character, but the 20 year olds really were obnoxious and just plain ignorant. We were tailgating in the Burgundy Lot with the DC alumni and after the game there was a group a 7 or 8 WVU guys just pissed off and just itching for a fight. Friday night on High Street was just idiotic. These students/youngin's had no class.

On the flip, tailgated with some WVU people that were next to us in the Burgundy Lot and had a blast. Thirty-something guys/girls that really were class acts that you would find in the SEC. Also, went around the RV lot with a WVU buddy and had a great time with at a bunch of WVU tailgates.

Had a great time overall, but would never go back to that place again.

Sounds to me like WVU needs to boost their admission standards. Most of the complaints are about college students, and we are notorious for having some of the lowest admission standards.

I think if we didn't have so many students that were just plain idiots, we would provide a much better gameday tailgating experience.

The decorum (or lack thereof) with which their student body and younger fans carried themselves was pervasive across the population. All schools (definitely LSU inclusive) have their bad apples, but this was just ridiculous. I went into this game having a certain level of respect for what the WVU football program has accomplished (i.e. Sugar Bowl win vs. Georgia, perpetually in the discussion for a BCS bowl, good recruiting across state lines, talented young coach, etc.) but left viewing them as a small-time player who got lucky and managed to land a couple of sucker punches. The WVU brand just isn’t something that I see as being consistent with the other schools in the SEC.

As I read the thread (and as I have heard from numerous others who were there) it wasn't just one small group of kids, but a significant percentage of the student-aged kids who are apparently too isolated in West Virginia or too uncouth (from New Jersey)--and in both cases way too immature--to understand the difference between good-natured ribbing and outright vulgar, confrontational hostility.

14. For a school with a 400 person band, WVU relies way too much on piped-in music. Not sure why their band doesn’t play more during the games.

I didn't go to the game, but I've heard that area of the country is quite pretty, and that the campus is beautiful. Is it an expensive school? Is it an expensive town to live in?

95% of the people we encountered were great. Some bought us beer. Most welcomed us and wanted to make sure that we were having a good time. Overall, I thought this was an outstanding fanbase. One of the nicest road trips we've been on. No comparison to the trash in Gainesville. LSU has had its own problems. The bad WVU fans saying FU LSU to us didn't seem like college material. Every fan base has jerks. To me, it's unreasonable think that you won't run into a few jerks here and there.

The foliage changing colors is quite impressive, I would say the town itself is a bit slummy, a very blue collar vibe though. I used to live down Grant street which is an infamous drag of student housing, or I should say shanty's. It's really cheap on both out of state and in state tuition, and living wise quite inexpensive as well. A year back it was voted the best small business town in America. I'm a non-native WVian who went there, I love the school but Morgantown itself is an odd beast.

After reading this I'm happy we hosted first. I'm not sure what kind of a reception WV fans would have received from LSU students after reading some of these stories.
