Texas/A&M/OU/Okie State

If we are going to 16 team superconferences, there are only so many top shelf additions available.
Take your personal feelings out of it and make a business decision.
If Texas, OU and Okie State were all on board with sharing tier 1 & 2 revenue equally and being able to do what they wanted with tier 3 revenue (and Texas agreed to never show an SEC conference member on LHN).....
.....can you name a better outcome for all SEC members than Texas/OU/Okie State joining with A&M.
I post this hypothetical because someone I know who has decent connections is hinting that Texas and the SEC are having informal conversations.

IF we have to go to 16, I think that would be pretty incredible.

No...if Texas and the SEC agree to terms, it makes the most sense for everyone involved. Except TAMU, which may send "troops" into Austin.

I think I'll just quit watching Kentucky football altogether if that happens.

If that happened then nobody is coming out the SEC with fewer than 2-3 losses.
Hell if they are willing to go to the Pac 12, they might as well jump to the SEC.

Yea. A&M, OU, UNC, and VT

Texas gives up LHN or splits all revenue from it sure. Still think the name would have to change so that recruits are not favoring one school.

Drunk, why do I get the feeling you are trolling and making this up?

I don't know......Bama's recent title team and Auburn's recent title team would have probably still been undefeated. Texas in 2005 would have probably still been undefeated.

Fixed it for you...well, not for you. For the SEC.

I know someone in A&M's Athletic Department. He told me last week that Texas' administration considers the school to be too good academically for the SEC. They feel that they are a better fit for the Pac 12. The sticking point right now is the LHN. The Pac 12 wants it to become a regional outlet for the national Pac 12 network. You would have it cover Tech, OU, and OSU.
OU wants an easy path to a BCS bowl...
...ummm, I mean they are choir boys who don't like sleazy SEC recruiting. This article is a bit dated, but it's one of the most disingenuous things that I have ever read.
Texas A&M departure would leave future of Big 12 a Big Mes

Besides, why does anyone think the SEC would stop at A&M? If the SEC needs another team for its western frontier, Missouri's bags are packed.
The Sooners aren't a candidate. That's one thing they all agree at OU; no one wants any part of the SEC recruiting culture.
Which takes OU, and probably OSU, back to the Pac-whatever.

I'm not but think what you like. Deep down inside, I would still personally like to see Texas in the Big 10 (because of where I live) but the football fan side of me would rather have Texas in the SEC than the Pac, ACC, reconstituted Big 12 or indy so I hope the talks are really happening. Do I know 100% for certain? No.

I would take it in a heartbeat. However, it won't happen imo.

OU invented the culture. Has anyone been hit by the NCAA more than the sooners?
I just love the Oklahoma media.

i wouldn't care if tu wanted to join the SEC. we've beaten them half the time in my lifetime.
but i don't want them if they want to join the SEC AND keep the Longhorn Network. that's just common sense...

I think the "dream" 16 team scenario for the SEC is:
Texas + Texas A&M in the West and UNC + VT in the East.
This expands the SEC into Texas, NC and Virginia which are the most desirable Southern states for tv and recruiting. It also keeps the divisions even (nobody has to move). All of these are "brand name" programs and they are all pretty good universities as well. This would really be an all around win.

There is no doubt that the Cal-alum president of Texas is an academic snob and has always wanted Texas in the Pac 12 BUT the regents value the LHN above all else.
The Texas legislature just slashed $67 million from the operating budget at Texas in a belt-tightening move. It is impossible to get at the PUF endowment money for operational expenses. Texas really needs the LHN money dedicated for the academic side of the university. If the SEC allows for schools to control their own 3rd tier TV revenue rights, Texas could keep the LHN, and the academic money, rolling in. If the Pac and the ACC and the Big 10 make this a headache, the SEC looks a lot better and the Regents will override the President.
Yesterday, the Texas BOR said the Texas president could make the decision to stay in the Big 12 BUT the regents kept the right to say if/when Texas could change conferences. They want control to make sure Texas doesn't lose the LHN $ for academics.

Me too. Then Alabama and Auburn both can move East and everything is settled.
