At least it was funny when Skip Bertman stuck his hands in our pockets because Gordy Rush could just mock him on the post game show. Now Gordy's gone from 98.1 and this is just a money grab.

The issue here is killing the golden goose. The strong LSU tailgating tradition is a gift that keeps on giving. More fans on campus does more than just generate revenue, it enforces behavioural patterns. These strong behavioural patterns can turn fair-weather fans into hard core fans, increase the energy on campus, and maintain it even through down times. If you overprice in order to keep out the riff raff, yet in doing so keep out good fans as well, you are disrupting a behavioural pattern. A group that tailgates is stimulating the economy and LSU. More importantly, they are passing that tradition on to friends and family, who will likely continue that tradition given good experiences. The danger here is mission creep. If they overprice parking and it still fills up for big games, then soon nearly all lots on campus will have some fee. And when (god forbid) we have a down period, those prices are the dealbreaker. Tailgaters stay home. The tradition is disrupted. "well, we used to tailgate, but dad and his group stopped when the prices got ridiculous. We just stay home now and party at the house. It's just not worth it to deal with the hassle anymore." Break the chain, and it is very difficult to regain that same level down the line.

LSU had SIX losing seasons in a row when Dinardo took over, something that would cause massive heart failure to Tiger fans today. Literally.
He immediately got us in the black and into bowl games. His last two seasons were bad with many other SEC teams hitting a pinnacle, but he still recruited some great players and gave everyone a glimpse at how good LSU could be, enter Saban in 2000.
Anyone saying Dinardo was anything but a good step forward for the program is stupid, stupid STUPID.

I think $20 is a little easier to swallow. You're going to pay that at the dome everytime you park. I mean we already pay out the butt for tickets and everything else that comes with the ultimate tailgating experience. For middle class guys like myself, we bust it all summer trying to put as much money away as we can for football and hunting season. $40 every home game is too damn much!

Thing about it is if it were 20 for a car and 20 for a trailor 95% of the people wouldnt think anything aboout it and would pay.

Agree. He was the first step in turning things around. Improved our recruiting and as you stated, put a spark back at LSU. He took it where he could (maybe could have taken it farther if he was willing to change coordinators). But he did take it to a point and NS took it from there with a lot better talent than Dinardo started with. Also Dinardo started back initially keeping the Louisiana kids at LSU.

I'm not necessarily against the parking fees, as there is still ample free parking.

I really don't think that it eliminates anyone. There are some serious loopholes to paid parking at LSU. Money won't stop fair weathered fans. Losing will but not money. I do not support littering but how are the people that do not use trash cans fair weathered fans automatically?? If you can't enjoy the madness, and desire less people on campus there is something wrong.

Maybe this has been said, but I think a paid parking setup with the prices dropping the further away from the stadium you get would make sense. $40 right next to it. $20 around Nich. Ext. $10 hayfield parking

What upset a lot of people was being charged $40 to get to the "FREE" hanicapped parking. Charging people to drive to the designated FREE parking at the tennis stadium was a big snafu. Especially since people used the routes they had always used to get there. Publish a disignated route for the people who park there on a first come first served basis. The lady at the lot said it probably wouldn't be free next year.

The Texas A&M campus is much bigger than LSU and has a lot more parking spots but none of it is free. Season ticket holders only pay $100 per year for parking passes. There is one ground lot on the edge of campus for $10 public parking. There is a giant pubic garage across the street from the stadium for $20 which is fair. $40 is nuts but I am even more surprised there is still free parking at all at LSU. This does not count the six different RV lots on campus. No clue what those guys pay.

Get a freaking clue people. It's 2011. Stop your bitching. Charging to park on campus was inevitable and here to stay. Most all college campuses charge for you to park on campus, and I am surprised LSU waited this long to start it. If you don't like the charge, start car pooling more often with more people and/or take the expanding shuttle system.

Are you people really that poor or do you just like to bitch?

Death is inevitable too, but it doesn't mean I'll welcome it and not try to fight it. I think it's more the amount than the fact that they're charging people. But I do see the logic in car pooling if you don't like it as you said.

I'm a poor bitch, so I guess I'm both. Are you one of those people that would say, "Okay, let's just get this over with" instead of fighting on your first day in prison when Bubba approaches with a hard-on the size of Spencer Ware? That was uncalled for...it's just a joke.
Again, when it costs as much to park as it does for the actual ticket to the game in some instances, I think it's ridiculous.
I think the one thing we can agree on though is that it's much easier to pay extra $ to see a winner than it is to see a loser. We're fortunate for that. But if things ever go south like we've experienced at times, those fees may not be "here to stay" as the other person stated. Hopefully though, we'll keep winning. Most of us are very fortunate to be able to attend LSU games, so I'll end with that positive point.

$40 is well below the "marketing price point". The lots will be full and the party will go on. I can't think of a single person who would not pay 40 bucks to experience LSU.

Obviously not, as evidenced by the obscene amount of EMPTY premium parking spaces last weekend. It is a matter of simple market economics.

Neither can I, in fact I'm happy to pay over $500 for my season tickets, happier still to pay that same amount as a TAF Fee. But $240 extra to park for a whole season (a 24% upcharge from my current amount paid out to the university) WITHOUT even the benefit of a reserved spot and - in the words of Brewer & Shipley - that's just One toke over the line sweet Jesus...
