Excuse my ignorance, but what is this 30% rule you speak of? I'm relatively new to the game.

You should not have you debt to credit ratio
Higher than 30% for an optimal credit score.

LSUtoOmaha, go get an AMEX and they waive the fee for the first year. If you are spending any money on the card the benefits at AMEX are typically worth it.

For example, Delta Platinum AMEX allows you to check luggae for free -- if you ever take a trip that can be $50 saved instantly. You also get a free companion ticket each year -- which could be hundreds of dollars saved.

And, AMEX has the best customer service in the business -- I have become a big fan. Knowing they have my back if my card info is ever stolen is also a huge benefit.

He made a thread a month or so back about applying for an AMEX. They denied him because he didn't have a credit history. It's confusing as he is in a good paying job.

Heck, he has a little more hisitory now (about 2 months?) so maybe his application will run across someone elses desk this time. Maybe calling them and talking to a person could be a good option -- If someone recently out of college in making 50k+ then they should be able to get at least a 1000 limit with no problem. Very little risk to the CC company and tremendous upside to capture a new customer early in his or her lifetime.

The customer lifetime value to a CC company for someone like LSUtoOmaha is tremendous with minimal risk, IMO (even without a long credit history).

use the card frequently, not just for emergencies, for 6 months. 80% to max. pay off balance every month. become predictable. after 6 months call em up ask for a credit limit increase. ask for a good bit increase, but not too much. shoot for the moon, not the stars.

I recently got my card increased from $4600 to $10,000

good luck

max it out, pay the minimum balance each month... they'll increase your limit in no time.
