OU's sole focus now on joining Pac-12

The Pac-12 preference is to add four schools – OU, Oklahoma State, Texas and Texas Tech.
The OU source said Scott hopes to meet with University of Texas president William Powers over the weekend.
OU president David Boren stepped out of a cloak of secrecy Friday and said the Sooners were being proactive in deciding their conference future, had interest from multiple conferences and expected to make a decision soon, from 72 hours to two weeks.
“We're at the sensitive point of discussions among schools,” Boren said.

The Pac-12 sales job shifts now to Texas, and sources indicated that the Longhorns have warmed to the idea, even though some compromise would be in order, since the Pac-12 has announced plans for a conference network and UT has its own Longhorn Network that has caused such consternation in the Big 12.
“Given what the Pac-12 has announced, there's a place for the Pac-12 and Texas to keep their network,” an OU source said.
The Sooners prefer going to the Pac-12 with three other Big 12 schools, preferably OSU and the two Texas schools. That would keep OU's Texas recruiting ties strong and would help minimize travel.

Various sources have said Notre Dame, Arkansas and Pittsburgh have rejected Big 12 inquiries, and that the Big 12 options of Brigham Young, TCU and Air Force don't excite OU.

Just seems weird since those exact 4 turned it down last season

The Big 12 was still holding together by a thread though. As the article states though, all of their good options have declined to join the Big 12 and what's left over will water down the conference. Not much reason to stick around anymore.

it more or less blew up when texas decided they didnt want to play by the Pac 12s rules with their network

t.u thought that A&M would join the orange and white piggy back to the west coast with OU, and OSU last summer. Then A&M was flirting with the SEC. Texas after wanting to leave schools like Tech, Iowa State, Baylor to rot, then back tracked and decided that they wanted a united Big 12 "Saviors of the Big 12". They wanted us to go, but we didn't want to.
Texas is a parasite to any conference. However, if they think they are going to be running the show in the Pac 12, they are mistaken. Schools like USC, Oregon, and UCLA are not going to be taking shite. Put athletics aside, these schools aren't pushovers like Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, and KSU. Whorns won't have their minions in the Pac.

RC nailed it. A&M talking to the SEC last year wasn't the issue. When it happened, sips told everyone that the deal was still on and they'd just never play A&M again. It wasn't until Scott made it public that nobody was going to have their own network that the sips decided to save the conference from their original plan to destroy it.
Oh, and since it's my first post - Geaux Tigers!
I've even got money on you guys tonight so, really,

After BYU's win today the Big 12-2-1 probably will rescind its offer. Don't need the tough competition. (And after losing to Baylor, the Big East may want to reconsider TCU.)

Actually Tech was in the deal to head to the PAC-10.

Yea, after A&M was flirting with the SEC. Wasn't the original plan A&M, t.u, OU, and OSU? Tech was the backup to A&M IIRC

No, it was a 5-team deal. With Colorado already headed there (to make it 11 teams), the plan was for the PAC-10 to jump to 16 teams with Texas, A&M, Tech, OU, and Okla State.
A&M's decision to tell Bevo where to stuff it caused the whole thing to implode, and the PAC-10 ended up taking Utah instead.

As usual, the aggies aren't even close to the facts.

• In the end, "Texas politics" killed his plan to add Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Colorado, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State from the Big 12.
• Contrary to what was widely reported, Texas' plans to start its own network was not a deal breaker in the school's plan to jump to the Pac-10. "[Inviting Texas] wouldn't have gotten that far if it was about a few dollars here or there or a TV right here or there," Scott said.
• The Big Ten "started the discussion about super conferences," that allowed Scott to attempt such a bold move.
• Texas "leaked" expansion plan as they were going into Big 12 spring meetings in June hoping to keep the Big 12 together.
So, per the Pac commissioner:
- Texas politics killed the deal
- Texas wanting its own network wasn't an issue
- Texas was working to save the Big 12

There is still a strong sense that Scott can create a 16-team super-conference, which nearly happened last year until 11th-hour demands by Texas broke down the deal. The main obstacle then was that Texas asked for more money, what one official termed “extra sweetener,” at the last minute, and the deal imploded.

My link directly quotes the Pac commissioner and names its source. The NYT article references "one official".
I'll leave it up to you to decide which is credible.

The NYT article mirrors texas actions during this lhn debacle.
I don't need to trust any article when it's plain as day for everyone to see.
