You can joke about some of A&M's odd traditions but they have an a##load of money and they generate a lot of research money.

Not only in the academic sense but in the athletic sense. It is ranked #4 in the men's directors cup and #2 in the women's directors cup. Also, it is only 1 of 7 profitable athletic programs in the country. The school has way more money than every SEC school except for maybe Florida.

Don't forget that A&M, in terms of winning percentage, is high on the list historically.

West schools who does TAMU help or hurt?
Helps Arky and LSU
No change UA and Auburn
Hurts MSU and Ole Miss
Gives Arky and LSU a natural rival in TX, not much effect on Bammer or Auburn but another quality team sets MSU and Ole Miss back

that's a good start. But I think it helps Bama, a lot. Remember, now Saban will go into Texas and recruit for the SEC. Big time players only.

Let's see what the other additional team is.
If its TCU that would be nice.
I would rather it be TCU than the Okies.
TCU = DFW.
The Okies have to recruit Tex already. Without Tex, the Okie roster is a step down from big time.

Alabama has been top three in athletic profit for the last four years. I don't see A&M near the top of that list.

Endowment is another matter. Only Vanderbilt is near A&M on that front.

You better believe the Arkansas Alumni bases in Dallas and Houston are jumping up and down. They will pick up the Sunday paper (log online) and read all about the SEC and the Razorbacks more than once a year.

The Biggest break through is Arkansas commercials and highlights on local news and reporting in Texas.

The Dallas game against the Aggies for the past 2 years has helped re-energize those alumni portions.

Arkansas and LSU will be the first ones pulling down the wall of the Big12 dominated state of Texas.

THIS. I think A&M's lower standing in athletic profit is/was more a sense of apathy and lack of motivation than an actual ability to raise funds and be profitable. I think this likely move to the SEC has lit a fire under A&M people and motivated/excited them in ways they haven't been in a very long time. At least that's the sense I get from reading their boards. I've never seen a fanbase so excited about changing leagues.

Yes, the endowment and research dollars dwarfs most SEC schools.

A&M will improve SEC's academic standing and will compete for league titles some years.

Definitely hurts the Mississippi schools. They are already at a competitive disadvantage with their weak athletic budgets and below par facilities. This makes it even tougher for them. With a 9 game conference schedule it is one less win over McNeese St and one more probable loss.

I think it helps LSU and Arkansas the most because it opens up Texas recruiting to them a lot more due to proximity. I think they beat Arkansas at least 50% of games though once aTm gets SEC talent.

Agreed on Bama and Auburn...not much change other than another tough opponent. But each school can certainly compete with aTm.

But make no mistake.....once aTm is able to sell the SEC to Texas recruits, they will compete for SEC titles eventually. They will be right there along with Florida, LSU and Georgia when it comes to proximity to talent.

This will help [SEC} recruiting a lot IMO. I think it will actually hurt aTm in the long run.

I just can't understand how anyone thinks this. There's a reason UF, UGA and SC don't want their in-state rivals in the SEC. If you want to own the "SEC" label in one state, it might be Texas (you could argue Florida or California too). I think there are 3 teams this hurts the most: Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, and to a lesser degree, Oklahoma. We'll gladly take the random 4-Stars who commit to OSU and Tceh every year. Hell, we already have what's likely a Top 10 class in 2012, and I don't see it going anywhere but up.

I agree with you that it benefits both Arkansas and LSU who recruit heavily in TExas. However, I honestly believe that it also helps Ole MIss and MSU who I believe will be able to now dip down into Texas and get reruits. May not be as beneficial to Auburn and Alabama because you guys dont recruit Texas as much (I dont think), but overall IMO, will benefit the entire SEC. Looking forward to it.

Ask any longhorn about the 80s and 90s. No wonder they never want us to have any sort of success in football ever again, because we owned them, and the SWC.

*Clears throat*

Arkansas went 7-3 against aTm in the 80's in the SWC, finished in the top 15 5 times, along with winning the conference 2 times.

Congrats, and you finished ranked lower than Arkanas more times than that.

You've been our bitch since the inception of football. You'll become close rivals with Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, & Miss State when you join the SEC.

Go start a bonfire

It hurts the SEC fans' wallets.

And you can bet the Longhorns will not let them do that either.
