Eleven79 vs Giovanni's

I am narrowing my selection down to these two spots. What i am looking for is good food (of course), romantic and overall class/style. I'm trying to stay Italian.
My other option, though not Italian, is Brigtsen's.
These are all places which I have never tried. Looking for any advice on them, or even any other suggestions.
Places which I have been in the past: Adolfo's, Vincent's, Venesia's.... there may be more, but those are off the top of my head. Please don't suggest these, because I am looking for something new.
Thanks

Eleven 79 is better than any of the places you mention going in the past, and it would be my choice if you were going "Italian." I like Giovanni, but it can get a little over the top with the opera singers and stuff (but maybe that adds to the romantic ambiance for you).

Yeah, that may be a bit much. I'm considering Giavanni's more for the attire. Since we will be dressed up for the night, I wanted something a bit more upscale.
Is Eleven79 upscale? I get the impression that it is not.
Even though she likes Italian, I am seriously considering Brigtsen's. Any ideas on this place? I have read/heard many good things about it.

No to giovanni.
Eleven 79 havent been in years, but it was pretty good from what I remember. Mr. John's is Italian Steakhouse and is a step up from both of those.

There will be many in jeans and since they're in the Quarter, they may even allow shorts... Does it really have to be Italian? What's the occasion?

I haven't been to Mr John's in years. I thought they had closed down actually, but apparently I am wrong. I will look into that as well. Personally I would much prefer Brennen's or Galatoir's (my spelling sucks, I know) for steaks, but I don't remember MrJ well enough to say so or not.
Thanks for the suggestion

not really, but she likes Italian. I am open to any other suggestions that are upscale-romantic

Going to a show that evening, and we will be dressed up (not suits or anything, just nice). Looking to complete the night with a good dinner.

I'm not sure what you might mean by "upscale", but I sort of consider it such. More in an old school sort of way, though. Not in an over the top manner.
For some reason, I always want to dress better when I go there, just to fit in with the old school vibe. I don't know if that's what you're asking.

Go to Mr. John's. She can get Italian stuff and you can too. Or you can get a steak and be a real man.

that actually answers my question well. You may have made up my mind on this to go there. I want to avoid the T-Shirt/Jeans, but I'm not looking for Coats and such.
As long as the "feel" is upscale. I like the "old school" description, for this is what I enjoy most about resteraunts.
Thanks for the info

You're just scared if you're not on your best behavior you're gonna get whacked.
To the OP-- it's by no means a dive. I like the atmosphere at Eleven 79. You mentioned romantic atmosphere though, and I think there may be some more romantic options-- Le Crepe Nanou, Martinique, even Irene's...

have you ruled out a Mano?

I've had excellent meals and service every time I've gone to Cafe Giovanni. I believe I have a review on the dining forum.

I love Irene's! Problem is there are no reservations there
I will look into Martinique and Mano. I have not heard of these, so I shall research them a bit.

Nah, I just want Joe to see me as a paisan. Dude's always dressed to the nines.

Just looked up Martinique, and this place is legit! The outdoor dining pics look amazing. She is a sucker for outdoor dining, so I think we have a winner here.
thanks, you nailed it for me

I must have missed the time of year you will be there. If it's now, outdoor dining will not be very comfortable.

Just two cents, if this date is soon, dining outside while dressed up is not recommended. It is still hot as frick.
