16 Years of Fantasy Football

I just realized this will be my 16th year doing Fantasy Football. How long have you folks been playing? Anyone longer than 16?
For the old timers, what do you remember, good and bad, about the early years?
Good: I enjoyed the magazines a lot more back then.
Bad: No online scoring. Everything by hand.

2004-2005 season. Auction draft snagged Randy Moss for $80. I didn't know shite.
Guy waited until end of draft and bought his guys for $1 and won it all.
I will never do another auction league.

Started playing around '96. Started in 8th grade.
No ppr, everyone used 4 points for passing TDs, no flex positions, idp, 2 qb leagues etc
Back then it was about actual knowledge. Now any Joe blow can pull up something on the Internet the day before a draft and think they know everything. A lot of people on this board fit that bill.

This will be my 11th year playing. Our league started to play for money in 2005.

Since '92 season.
1QB 2RB 2WR (TE could be used as a WR) K D/ST.
Touchdowns only, 6 pts each. Kickers just got XP's or 3 for FG.

Been Playing since 1988. Dalton Hilliard was on the cover of Fantasy Football Forecast. No internet for stats. Me and Co/Commish had to use USA Today's as our stat gathering devices.

1999, I picked up Stephen Davis after the first game to go along with rookie Edgerrin James, they both had huge years. Won the league. Can't remember any others from that team.
Scoring was internet based, but there wasn't near the information available on players that there is now.

This is probably my 6th or 7th year to ever play, but only my 4th year since I've been seriously invested in it.

My first league allowed one keeper each year. I grabbed Edge his rookie season and had him for awhile. Loved that guy.

We started in 2000. One dude wasn't a huge football fan but wanted to play just for the fun of it.
He ended up pulling the 1st pick. Proceeds to pick Garrison Hearst who damn near had his ankle broken completely off the season before. Later in the draft he picked Fred Lane... The Fred Lane who was murdered by his woman in June 2000.
Good times!

Started in '96 I think. Joined an existing points league (no head-to-head matchups). Whoever scored the most points in a particular week got paid. These guys actually carried over a keeper at each position my first year. What a joke! One dude had Brett Favre, Emmitt Smith, & Herman Moore all of which were #1 at their positions then. I won my money back (2 wins) the my first year because of the Vinny Testaverde to Michael Jackson combo which was incredible. We scrapped the keepers all together after that year. The following year I had figured it all out evidently and dominated the league scoring the highest points in 5 of 17 weeks. We didn't play any more after that year, but I've been playing ever since. Playing in 3 carry over leagues this year. 1st draft is tonight. Can't wait to get it on.

i remember as an early teenager trolling the ESPN message board trying to get into the leagues with the "regulars" that thought they knew it all.

I started in '96. We had to call in our line-ups on Friday night and leave a message on the commissioner's answering machine. There was no internet for scouting or scoring. Not sure what year it was, but one of our league members called the Broncos front office to find out if Terrell Davis was going to play one week when he was listed at questionable.
Good times.
