TAMU sticks out like a sore thumb

They do not fit into the SEC, geographically, scholastically and given their schools atmosphere.
Look at Dickson, the Grove, Toomers, etc etc. They will stick out in our league, be a run through and we DO NOT need them. They will only bring our conference down in tradition and atmosphere.

Hate on our rabid fanbase and traditions all day--I won't agree with you, but I'll understand. Texas A&M University is very unique.
But geography, academics, and atmosphere? You lost me. Arkansas borders Texas, as does Louisiana. We're a solid Tier I research institution that consistently ranks very high academically--using just about any poll and/or metric. As for "school's atmosphere" ... I'd put Aggieland up against any atmosphere in the nation. Texas Aggies are some of the most friendly, genuine, loyal people you'll ever meet.

Is it me, or are Ags similar to Hawgs in the fact that they are always trying to provide links, facts, or other tidbits of info to establish more credibility. I could give a shite about the Knoxville news coverage.
That being said...I don't want A&M or FSU. SEC is fine as is.
And arguing that A&M fits in geographically? Really? They would be the most out of the way school we have...

Had to look that up. Knew it had something to do with TCU and frogs.
Ask most Aggies I hang around with and you'll get some pretty strong stances AGAINST some of the things that the TV focuses on, specifically zooming in on the Corps guy wearing Top Gun Raybans furiously whooping and waving his towel. The talk about how classes are dismissed if our mascot barks (who is taken to class by the Corps outfit who handles her), etc. There are definitely some odd ones mixed in with the good ones like student participation at games, Silver Taps, Midnight Yell and Muster. Unfortunately other than Midnight Yell the others aren't discussed much on gameday.
As I've said, everyone has an opinion on what is cool vs. what is weird, but I consider the College Gameday crew a pretty good barometer of what "good" traditions and crowds are and we're always mentioned as the best or one of the best atmospheres to watch a game.

But I can totally understand the viewpoint that "SEC is fine as is." It's a pretty damn great conference. If it's not broken, why fix it, right?
Certainly Texas would be the farthest state to the west (just as Florida/Georgia/South Carolina anchor the eastern side of the conference); however, Texas is an SEC contiguous state, nonetheless.
But I can totally understand the viewpoint that "SEC is fine as is." It's a pretty damn great conference. If it's not broken, why fix it, right?

Is this true?
If so I'm going to see if I can get a similar policy here about having our live rooster crowing in class. Morning classes would be guaranteed to get dismissed.

I'd be saying the same thing if it was UT, Tech, Oklahoma, whoever. The Big 12 dropped the ball...meaning Beebe.

It is true, although some of the less tradition sensitive professors have been known to ignore it. I had it happen a couple of times in my classes and we were dismissed.

I can remember when Baton Rouge, Lexington, Knoxville and Gainesville were the most out of the way schools, as you put it.

You're right. Going from a conference with four fellow AAU members (Iowa State, Mizzou, Kansas, and the hated UT) to only having two (Vandy and Florida) will simply be too much of an adjustment.

Maybe you are right. Their engineering pgms far outrank most of those at SEC schools.

I'll just leave it up to people that are a lot smarter than I to determine if the positives of adding A&M outweigh the negatives. I'm sure if Slive needs any help he'll make an appearance here at TD to get any clarification on geography, academics or whatever other criteria they are using to make the decision.
