Fort Worth Star Telegram: Go Aggies Go, but re-learn old SWC tactics

Go Ags Go, and the Fishbowl Rules of Recruiting
quote:
To compete, two things have to happen. One, the admissions office in College Station has to loosen some standards on admitting recruits, and, two, you have to cheat.

Voice No. 2 will be identified as a prominent Texas high school football coach. I asked him about the impact of recruiting in our state since the Aggies' move will throw the door wide open to the SEC monsters. "It depends," he answered, "if the Aggies are allowed to come into the SEC under the fishbowl rules." The fishbowl rules? What's that? "When money is being offered," calmly explained the coach, "you can't go into another conference state and offer more money than what the school or schools in that state are offering. You can match the offer, just not go more."

I am a Randy Galloway fan, but fishbowl rules? Didn't know there were unspoken rules in cheating....lol

This guy fricking serious?
I'm sure some random SEC coach just explained how they pay players and cheat to a high school coach in Texas. Seems completely legitimately.

"fishbowl rules"...hopefully the guy was just screwing with the reporter. But these coaches do deal with lots of recruiters.

There is no agenda in that article....
This is starting to remind me of when we left the SWC. A&M getting smeared, etc.
I think I'm turning to the Aggie side on this one.

I see a lot of fear in that article. Funny how they completely ignore FL's and UGA's academic stature, not to mention Vandy.

Yeah, and when people bring up the academic stuff, they conveniently forget to mention that the Big12 is home to Oklahoma State and Texas Tceh. When I was applying to colleges, LSU and even Ole Miss were higher on my list than Tceh.

Academics is an excuse used by those afraid to compete.
Nor do I believe the cheating in the SEC is more severe than other conferences. Look at USCw, look at Miami, look at Oregon, look at tOSU.
Those are simply excuses.
In addition, besides football, what does Oklahoma have going for it? Basketball? Baseball?

Hell, even Alabama would be among the top 3-4 schools academically in the current Big 12-2.

Stupid. I'm already sick of the sucky Texas attitude.

The shots at A&M from Texas schools will escalate once A&M gets in. As A&M rises to a more powerful program all these other schools will be insanely jealous. God help Horn Fans if A&M wins a National Championship in the next 5 years and they play Texas in the game and beat them. I can't imagine what it would be like to be an Aggie if that happen.

I'm guessing that's false, starting with AAU affiliation among other measures.
As far as recruiting Texas, it should get real interesting especially if the Pac-16 comes about. Not only more SEC exposure in Texas, but USC, Oregon, Stanford, etc.. Fascinating stuff.

Actually it's not false, but whatever.

I love me some SEC but UT, KU, Mizzou, K-State, & TAMU are all superior academic schools to Bama.
edit to show I'm no homer, they are above LSU also.

I used to think A&M was a good school, but now I'm not so sure they fit in academically with the SEC.
With the way A&M promotes their Corps of Cadets, I used to think that they were the cream of the crop. Now I realize that they are actually the dregs of Texas. It turns out that the academic standards are LOWERED to allow the cadets to attend A&M.
I'm not sure of any other SEC schools that lower their standards to allow a particular group of individuals to attain an accredited degrree. I'm afraid this would have the effect of watering down degrees from other SEC member institutions.
So no, I don't see A&M as a good academic fit in the conference.

That's a myth. People claim it and believe it, even almost all Ags. But it's not true. Kinda like the Association of Former Students paying for half of the Aggie Ring. Commonly believed, but 100% false.
I'm sure there's plenty more misconceptions
