The Texas schools just need to have their own conference.

They can't make a move without each other so they might as well just be the Texas conference.

I don't know how Oklahoma and Okie State are wanting to stick around. Won't they be the only non-Texas schools.

Arkansas was the only non-Texas school in the old SWC and they got the hell out of dodge.

Well, in Oklahoma's case -- they own that arse so I don't why they'd leave.

Oklahoma has won 8 of the last 11 Big 12 South titles.

The old SWC, minus Arky, plus the Oklahoma schools would be a sweet deal for Oklahoma so long as it keeps the automatic qualifier to the BCS.

With Nebraska and Colorado gone, the rest of the current Big 12 North is largely useless as far as football goes.

And Oklahoma has a long standing rivarly with Texas so it's not like they aren't used to butting heads with the Texas schools.

Baja Oklahoma doesn't skeer them one bit.

I was always in favor of the South West Conference and The Big 8 Conference.

Texas conference

will never happen because it can't compete with the SEC/Big10/Pac12. those conference teams will continue seperating themselves from the "texas conference" teams because of higher TV dollars/exposure/etc.

They have to, Tejas is where the sparse populaced Indian Nation gets most all their ballers from, sans some in-state factories like Jenks, etc..

Oklahoma risks dying on the vine(at least in terms of their usual stature in NCAA Football), if not joined at the hip of Texas and the marquee overhype of the Red River Rivalry.

People forget that OU and OSU have only been in a conference with TX schools since 1994. OU's bread and butter has been TX kids since WWII, and I don't think all this conference b.s. will change that.

ETA: OSU has been recruiting TX hard for the last 6-7 years as well.

Texas
Texas A&M
Texas Tech
Baylor
TCU
SMU
Houston
Rice
UTEP
Texas San Antonio

That's no worse than the Big East IMO!

It'll never happen but I'm thinking that the following would make a halfway decent 10 team conference. No worse than the Big 12-2 is today.

#1 Oklahoma
#8 Oklahoma State
#9 Texas A&M
#14 Arkansas
#15 TCU
#24 Texas
Texas Tech (8-5 in 2010)
Baylor (7-6 in 2010, beat Texas)
Houston
Tulsa (10-3 in 2010, beat Notre Dame)

Basically, the current Big 12 South plus Arky, Houston, Tulsa and TCU. SMU, Rice and UTEP are possibilities but SMU and Rice are small and private and UTEP just royally sucks most years.

If you look at the history of the old Southwest conference, Oklahoma was a charter member of that conference.

There were indeed.

A lot of UT fans consider Oklahoma their true rival anyway and a lot of Sooner fans feel the same way.

But Oklahoma left early and established their identity in the Big Eight.

The Southwest conference consisted of all Texas schools and Arky.

When you look at television money, having an all Texas conference would only give you a Television footprint exactly the size of Texas

I mentioned this in another thread a few days ago. I would think the State Texas would want their big teams in as many different conferences as possible. Then it would be conceivable they may have multiple conference champions from the state of Texas in the same year. What would pump their Texas size egos higher than that.

it's like a whole 'nother country

but a Texas North could have OU, OSU, North Texas, SMU, TCU, and Texas Tech

the South division would have Houston, Rice, Texas, A&M, UTEP, and Baylor...
