Bring the Big Easy to the Big East!

New Orleans is a major football market in the South and adding its college football team to the Big East conference adds another major city to the fold and legitimizes the Louisiana rivalry between LSU and Tulane.

Tulane needs to drop down to Division III. They get less than 1000 fans in attendance. Division I requires 30k I think.

I can't believe that people still make the argument that teams should drop down in classification. It's small minded thinking by people that can't grasp the consequences of what would happen if Tulane, or ULL, actually did drop down.

There's no reason to think that Tulane in a BCS conference couldn't be at least as competitive as Vanderbilt, Duke, Northwestern, or the like. It's their own fault that their administration has been terrible for the past 50 years or so as far as athletics are concerned, though.

Miami is a larger market. Does that mean that the Big East should invite Florida International?

Then again, the Big East did invite TCU, which isn't even in east Fort Worth much less the eastern US (and which does nothing in basketball, the only sport about which the conference gives a flying fig).

Yea, but Louisville proper is bigger than NO proper by about 400k. Not that it matters all that much when it comes to markets but...

Them and Fla Atlantic have a better chance at getting say, a CUSA bid, than other, more rural schools (like La Tech).
