if money is the focus..

TAMU in the West, VT in the East

Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Washington DC..

Another West team (Missouri) and East team (FSU) would just be lagniappe to get to 16 imo

I agree. But I think they're joined with UVA. Too much pressure to stay together and the Va.Tech president was quoted as saying he has no interest in leaving the ACC.

I agree to some extent, but 1) how big a hold does VT really have on Washington DC? and 2) FSU is really a national brand and will help draw viewers nationwide.

i would prefer OU over Missouri..

Maybe so but for entertainment value I still think FSU wins.

I didn't see this, but this is my point. FSU is more attractive as far as name goes.

I don't really mind FSU coming, I just don't think it is the best possible addition. FSU has name recognition, but what is that really going to mean to the SEC? There are only so many nationally televised games per week, the SEC is going to score well in every one like it always does and dominate the weekly cf ratings. I think the only real way to reach more viewers is to go into areas that don't think SEC first and add teams.

look, FSU is a national brand

diluted somewhat by the last years of Bowden and going to the wrong conf in the first place

but they are a "national" draw...some folks may not like that nor want to admit it but its there...hell they've only been playing football for 60 years and people "think" they are a long term powerhouse (which true CFB fans know isn;'t really the case)

UVA pulled some major strings to get VT into the ACC (despite the fanbase being against it) From wikipedia:

quote:

Despite the intensity of the rivalry, Virginia Tech owes its membership in the ACC to the University of Virginia.[8] The Atlantic Coast Conference initially planned to add Boston College, Miami, and Syracuse to the conference lineup. Talks with Syracuse stalled as Jim Boeheim vocalized his opposition to the move, and Duke, UNC, and Virginia consistently voted against adding the Orange. When it became obvious that Syracuse lacked the necessary seven votes, U.Va. President John T. Casteen III took the opportunity to suggest the ACC consider Virginia Tech on June 18, 2003[9]. Duke and UNC voted against the Hokies, but with Casteen's support Virginia Tech was invited to the conference with 7 out of 9 votes. Miami and Virginia Tech joined the ACC in 2004, with Boston College joining in 2005.

I'm not sure this means that VT and UVA are joined at the hip...but it's possible.

That's correct. The DC market is a pro-town as most large cities are (Dallas, LA, Chicago), but that doesn't mean the area doesn't have a majority fanbases with a college football thirst. There is a strong showing of Penn St, WVU, VT, and UVA fans in the area. These four schools probably make up 75% of the college fanbase in the area.
