2001 is the correct answer IMO
Reed caught everything and anything near him. I still feel he was the best receiver LSU has ever had. The guy rarely missed a catch, and was a hell of an athlete.
He never really lit up the NFL, but in college he was as good as it got

Although Reed was quite possibly the best receiver to wear the purple and gold, he was not an entire WR corp... and that may be debatable.
I'd say 2006. I was never too high on Russell. He could throw it a mile with some heat, but I never thought he was the most accurate of QB's. Bowe and Buster Davis made some amazing catches and plays on some seriously poor, underthrown balls.

he just got his yrs mixed up, the 05 group he lists is 06.
05 had the biggest case of collective drop-itis I've ever seen, with the exception of Buster, who was dinged up a bit that yr.

You wanna fight! I was going to say Reed was the best freaking WR LSU has ever seen and good enough to stand against all the others by himself. Dude was a freaking beast, even on plays that didn't result in the ball being thrown his way.
I think next year we might finally have a receiving corps that takes the number 1 spot. I am hopeful that JLandry, RR, and someone else will shine like never before.

2001 for me. Reed was the equivalent of 2 receivers and Clayton was open as a result. I am not sure there has ever been a more prolific WR duo as these two were in 2001.

2006>>>>>2005
Mainly bc Bowe had that eye surgery. He dropped a lot of easy passes in 05. (See Auburn game). Also Davis and Doucet were more developed and Lafell wasn't being redshirted.

2001 and it's not even close.
Reed was unstoppable, but many of you must not remember Clayton as a compliment to Reed.
I'll never forget the catch he made versus Ole Miss in the endzone. I rarely see it discussed, but that's the best catch I've ever seen an LSU player make.
Jerel Myers was an excellent third option as well.

Toliver hardly played if at all. Doucet!
I gotta go with '06 as far as pure talent. Doucet, Bowe, Davis, LaFell....all drafted.

FWIW, the best LSU receiver I ever saw play in person was Wendell Davis, circa mid to late 80s.

dont forget about robert royal mixed in there with the 01 crew
2001 hands down....still the only bilitnakof (spelling) winner in the sec, and clayton, myers, robinson, and royal

this is the 05 crew (+ Lafell). Green, Brazell, and X were all gone in 06, and Lafell was redshirting in 05.

not in the last 50 years even. Go watch BOTH Eric Martin and Wendell Davis plays. MONSTERS on running football teams. Martin was listed as a Split End FWIW that's how much we ran the football then. Davis would pummel a db and so would Martin. Saw Martin make more catches with the Saints, take a lick, get up shrug his pads and walk back to the huddle like it was nothing. Guy was the true Silent Avenger!

2003 and 2005, this may have a lot to do with Mauk and Jamarcus having their best years ever with these guys though. 2001 had the best numbers though.
