If the Big12 fails, who does Texas play in non-football sports?

They've locked themselves out of the Pac12/Big10/SEC with the LHN, so I assume they would be in the Big East for non-football sports?
Can anyone clarify this?

Whoever they want, Texas is a helluva brand.

Texas's ego is going to put them back into the 80's/early 90's again.
The Big 12 will be better off with cutting ties with them and bringing in 3 teams, with at least one of them being in a new market.

That would be better for the majority of them, but I don't think they can or would do it.

Don't kid yourself, any BCS conference would take them. HUGE media market, LOTS of capital, tradition, merchandise sales, great academic standing. Contract would be mediated out of.

I think the Mountain West would gladly take Texas in other sports.

I don't think the Big Ten would take them if they have the LHN. But I could be wrong. It would be pretty difficult to pass on a school like Texas.

The Big10/Pac12/SEC have already said they won't allow one school to have its own network.

I have read where the Pac 12 guy said it would be difficult. I don't remember the other 2 conferences definitively saying one school can't have its own network.
Still, I think if A&M blows up the Big 12 and Texas is an available commodity, you will be surprised what the Pac 12 & Big 10 would do to bring in Texas. I think they would find a way to make the LHN, which handles 3rd tier football rights, in to the fold.
On what conference Texas could land in, De Loss Dodds, the Texas AD, is a very well-connected guy who has been in his role for 30 years. I would be absolutely shocked if he doesn't already have a plan in place for any eventuality.

Yeah...because they suck in every other sport. The Big12 knows who rakes in cash and ratings...and texas is one of the teams.
They are a national brand.
Who wants a top baseball program, a very strong basketball program, good softball, excellent at t & f, swimming, golf, etc. Like I said...national brand.

While Texas is the biggest fish in the pond that is the State of Texas, they are in a big arse pond with plenty of other healthy sized fish.
They start going mediocre again, those merchandise sales and "fans" will start dissipating.

There would be NO way that the B1G would allow Texas to come in with their own network.

We're not kidding ourselves when we see that the LHN would be a deal breaker to Texas joining any BCS conference. No way to sugar-coat that.

Texas should cut a deal with the Sunbelt Conference.
What Texas would get:
- The Longhorn Network with no restrictions, save what the NCAA might impose. 'Belch teams will be happy just to be there and let them do whatever they want.
- Eight or nine easy football wins a year. Add three or four tough intersectional games and you have a relatively easy path to compete for the national championship each year.
- A decent minor sport conference, to breeze through and get into the playoffs annually.
- They get to keep all the money they receive from any source, save for some token chip-in to the conference.
What the 'belch gets:
- Immediate respectability as a major conference
- Each member school gets an annual football game with Texas, and every other year, a home game they can market in a special venue. For example, ULL could host in the Superdome, Arky State in Little Rock, Middle Tennessee in Titans Stadium in Nashville.
- Elevated status for the New Orleans Bowl, where Texas would frequently appear as champion. They could allow the 'horns an out to play in one of the BCS bowls, whenever eligible.
- The Sunbelt teams could get some of their games televised on the LHN, with no qualms like some of the Big 12 teams.
- Hosting Texas in minor sports would be a great draw improving attendance and fan interest.
This is a win/win for both that should happen.

I have a feeling that the LHN won't be that popular as a money maker. Texas so big with divided loyalties I wonder if a network based on Florida, Cal, Michigan, and North Carolina would do well in their respective states where you have divided loyalties.
I don't doubt that the Longhorns are more popular but can they really sustain a network in one state with divided loyalties?
The magic of the big ten network is that everyone is equal and that a Michigan State or Purdue fan doesn't feel slighted and you can sell the BTN to all households.
Let's suppose a car dealership in Dallas buys time and advertises on the LHN. What if Aggies organized a boycott or complained? Even if the boycott is slightly successful it can hurt the car dealership.

You actually make a good point with all of this, but you didn't take into account the Longhorn ego. They and the Buckeyes have by far the biggest, most undeserved egos in all of college sports.
Ralph's questioning of the success of the LHN makes sense as well. Other than Texas, there are 9 other FBS teams in that state: TAMU, TTU, Baylor, SMU, Houston, Rice, UTEP, TCU, and North Texas. This doesn't include the fans of schools in neighboring states like LSU, OSU, Oklahoma, and Arkansas. This network isn't going to be as successful as they think.
