It's not my favorite Tim Burton movie, but it was worth seeing just for the visuals. I don't really know why it was so successful though. I guess it rode the 3d wave on Avatar's coattails.

I thought it was pretty good.

I enjoyed it. Like others have said, it was a visually stunning movie.

Silly thought, but do they adjust these figures for inflation? The price of a ticket to see Titanic was surely cheaper than seeing POTC.

Looks like HP7 part 2 is about to join that club, currently at 948.5 million

those aren't adjusted for inflation
otherwise you'd see shite like Gone With the Wind, Star Wars, and Sound of Music on there.

Box office mojo has a list of the top grossing movies adjusted for inflation. Gone With The Wind is in the top spot. Avatar isn't in the top 10. Out of the top 10 only 1 came out before 1982 and that was Titanic.

Watched Toy Story 3 last night because it's on Netflix.
Pixar is incredible. What can I say.

So you only watched it cause it was on netflix and not because it is awesome? Typical Rex.

You mean after 1982?
Xen: I wouldn't let the $1B number fool you into thinking it's a great movie. It's ok. Nothing special. Very typical Tim Burton.

Wasn't a huge fan of it. I was hoping that Burton would have taken a darker angle with it, but the fact that it was pg13 and Disney, he had to make it a little more child oriented.
Of all fantasy stories, Alice in Wonderland would be one of the best to convert into a dark, gritty, horror-lined movie.

Yeah thats what I meant.
So older movies made so much money for their time. Was that because there weren't as many options or because they were a lot better than movies today? Now I know Hollywood puts out a lot of terrible movies but even the best ones of today haven't come close to those classic movies of the past when you take into account inflation.

There's alway the gross revenue debate with current movies, including 3D, compared to older movies. A better debate, if available, would be net revenue, since current movies cost a whole lot more to produce and market than those classics.

Seems like I read somewhere that they are less people going to the theaters nowadays. I'm sure it's because of the economy.
There are good movies out there today it's just not what people go see and it's not the movies that make a lot of money. Comic book movies and summer blockbusters dominate the market so much. That being said, I think there is more crap out there right now than there has ever been.
