Misunderstood ya.

haters can suck it...

Loomis and Payton are playing chess while these other suckers are playing checkers. They get shite done and will continue to get shite done. Everybody chill the frick out. (not you whodat, you were just the last post on the board). 5 years ago we would have fricking killed to be paying our 2 time pro bowl SS who is in the prime of his career and knows his badass defensive coordinators playbook to perfection. There is A LOT to be said about continuity on a defense. We'll continue to work the cap as long as Loomis and Payton are in town. Have some faith.

I get this, but here's the thing: I trust this front office. I really do. I haven't been able to say that much in my life as a Saints fan, but these guys get it right over and over. If they think Harper is worth it, then I'm going with them.

Would have loved to have gotten him cheaper, but they know what else is out there and how important it is to have him there over someone else for cheaper. When have they made a mistake?

I'd love to see what the boards feeling on Harper was pre-Seattle. Too much emphasis being put on one game by some.

I have not read through this entire thread but I have to believe that with the new Rookie Wage Scale you will start to see premium veteran players salary increase. He is a probowler and this is probably how things will go in the future. Paying less money to rookies means salary increases for the veterans. Especially probowlers.

For all the new Saints fans that are bitching about Romans deal, look at it this way. If not for the rookie scale, this money would be spent on them

our rookies wouldn't be making $3-4M/year (cap hit) more than they are right now

waaaaay more. teams were able to retain players that they prolly would have lost at the cost of some jamarcus russells or ryan leafs type "potential".

what rookie of the saints would command that kind of salary?

how much do you think the saints would be paying a late 1st rounder?

hint: it's not that much

Regardless of what you think, weddle set the market value and that's what the saints paid, if you want a safety of roman's caliber, and he is so much better than the retards who post here give him credit for, then you gotta pay what the saints paid.

People need to get over Seattle.

weddle is 3 years younger and a better safety, though. he's a pure 2-way guy who can play free or strong at a high level

if weddle set the market, harper should have come in a good bit below that apex

do you really think harper is an equal safety to weddle? do you think he'll be at that level in 3 years?

we got great deals for bushrod and sproles

i assume goodwin is out

i hope we can re-sign nicks (be it this year or next)

Brees + Nicks/Porter/Colston/Meachem. Going to be an even tougher offseason with Harper taking up so much.

i wonder how nicks/porter will play out in the next 365 days

for all of his injuries, i don't even wanna think about losing colston

He's more valuable to the saints organization from the FO perspective. GW feels he is and therefore we prolly overpaid to retain his services. I also think this lockout coupled with this wild, short arse off season played into the fact. If it was march, I think things would be different. We could have got a guy like a manning or Landry in here to learn the system and find a fit with this ball club. No time really for that now.

I think Harper allows GW to run his defense a certain way and as do other key players. It boils down to Harper being one of those guys that he obviously over values.

At this point I think all of us fans should have faith in the FO to get done what truly needs to be done.

A punter just got a 20 million dollar contract, and everyone in here wants to bitch because we just paid a potential all pro safety 28. This is the climate in the new NFL fellas, contracts are gonna be bigger.

motherfricking this...the backseat GMs need to chill the frick out. We have a top 3 front office who is excels in this aspect. I'm sure they just haven't forgotten about the need players that need to be resigned in the coming year and I'd assume they most certainly have a plan for it. I'm sure they have had preliminary discussions with Brees and what he is going to expect. I'd also be willing to bet that he takes a bit less than the other elite QBs so he can keep some weapons.
