Now I know why. There were at least five people texting on phones during the movie. Nobody is that important and they really piss me off/

Just gonna wait for pay per view or DVD. Assholes have ruined the theatres!

You have a name like Gondor, and you don't go see movies? What kind of fantasy nerd like that doesn't go to movies?

I go to a good number of theaters, and the douche bag theater goers have been very few and far between. Most times I've been pretty lucky, but I usually try to pick times when there aren't going to be a lot of assholes, Sun. at noon vs. Fri. night at 9:00.

Yeah I am an admitted geek/nerd and I really love movies, but the movies the past few months have been pretty bad. I have been shifting to pay per view and dvd over the past year. Today's experience with lighted screens being visually distracting and sounds to announce receipt of texts really did it for me.

I make sure I never go to movies during summer. I wait until the kiddies are back in school, and generally go on a weeknight.

Neither do I. Watching at home is great. But I like to go out to the theatres once in awhile.

You just need to go to one of those theaters that serves alcohol and doesn't let anyone under 21 after a certain time.

I like to go to the movies wearing a clown suit. When someone starts texting I just get up and go stand horizontal to them in the isle. I just stand still and stare at them. Pre teens to adults, it don't matter. They always stop texting and sometimes leave the theatre completely. And nobody ever sits next to me so that's nice.

I would certainly flip my shite if some self centered whore did that. You don't take an infant to the movies. Had to endure a 3 year old running up and down te aisles in Pirates, which pissed everyone off, but the kid came with a 230 pound 6 foot black guy who was almost as obnoxious, to where no one was saying shite.

I am going to go easy on you because you haven't been to the movies in a while, but I'm going to be a little abrasive. Keep in mind this is all going off assumption from your 5 sentences in this post.

Here it goes: It is your fault that you were distracted by people texting. Why? Here's why. You could have controlled this in 4 different ways.

1) Go to the movie during a time that would have less people that are prone to text at it. Matinees on weekdays help. If you can't make it then, then do matinees on the weekends. The earlier the showing the better. Why? The average age of the patrons to the movie theater is greater than at later weekend hours.

2) Don' sit in the back of the theater. Those are the worst seats possible. You don't want to see every single movement by every single person. Get the front row center right in front of bar and the alley way that divides the top section from the bottom section. Or get the very top of the bottom section if you don't like seeing the occasional silhouette pass in front of you.

3) Go to a movie where people won't text at. Don't tell me you went to see Captain America or some comedy and was surprised people were texting. I promise you not a single text was swapped in any theater screen room around the country that showed Tree of Life.

4) Ask them not to text or tell management. You kindly ask them to stop texting to follow the theaters standards of courteousness towards the other attendees.

See? It takes practice, but you can have an enjoyable movie experience in the theater. I know I do.

I'm not saying it doesnt happen, but I go to movies fairly often and can't remember the last time I was distracted by people in the theater. Yeah, it's happened before and some people can be absolute morons, but it's not a common occurrence for me. People that do all the time either have terrible luck or need to rethink the theater location/time.

I had one of my worst theater experiences last night. It was just a terrible crowd. Some lady brought an infant, this guy sitting in front of me would repeat every joke to himself and then laugh (which almost added a laugh track to the movie), the guy sitting next to me pulled out his phone and was on facebook for at least 10 minutes, etc. It was pretty bad. Somebody even kicked a water bottle that rolled down the steps at one point.

I have a pretty nice home theater setup. I'd much rather watch movies at home than deal with inconsiderate mongoloids
