Looking to clairfy some "myths" about LSU Football

My CF craving is killing me. So I was thinking about some of the urban legends I have heard over the years, but am not sure how true they are. I welcome those who can clarify fact versus fiction on this stuff. This may all be bull, but what is real?
Thanks
1) Did Bert Jones really say the best part of his career at LSU was leaving?
2) Did any of the 3 Manning’s ever really consider coming to LSU? Did LSU recruit them hard? (for the record, I view Manning’s as THE most overrated sports family ever, they are good, but 11 seasons of CF with one sec title, no nc, no Heisman’s and a sub .550 sec record as a family does not deserve 1/100th of the credit they get imo)
3) Did Mike Archer find out he was fired from the press and not Joe Dean?
4) After the 44-3 loss to Miami in 88, did Ruffin Rodrique really say that basically Miami knew they were playing against a great team?
Thanks

I was at that game and the quote must be wrong...he must have said " Miami knew they were playing in some really crappy weather and beat the snot out of us."

It might be fair to say college sports family, but they do have those Super Bowls, which kind of trumps virtually anything else, right?

Don't want this to turn into a Manning thread, but I admit that they have 2 NFL SB rings, but I would even debate (for another thread) they are overrated in NFL too. (as an INDY fan are you happy with one sb title in PM's career???)
However, in college, IMO many believe they were great...the facts do NOT support this, Archie and Ely never sniifed even a conf title and Peyton by most accounts underchanved with only one SEC tile and no NC's. Tee Martin..enuff said.

I've heard this too - I was at LSU for the dark days that followed..... I'd love to know if this is true as well!

I've never even heard of this as a "myth."
2. is no and no. Being bitter about such a thing would be silly, though.

So you are only good in College if your team did very well?
As for the NFL you are shitting me right?
I guess Dan Marino was sucked then since he didnt even have 1.

5)Was Steve Spurrier really waiting outside for an interview while Curley Hallman was being hired?
I have heard this more than once and always thought it was BS.
With a little research, it seems that Spurrier would have been wrapping up his first season with UF when Hallman was hired (Nov. 1990). The timing seems off for an interview.

Fuc the manning family. From No never showed Lsu any love. Then to top it off Eli refuses to sign with San Diego, at the same time Pat Tillman turns down millions to go die for his country! You wana go buy yor kid a manning jersey, your what's wrong with this country. Go get your kid a Pat Tillman jersey and learn a lesson about who heroes really are. I respect Peyon as a player but the rest of the family can go to he'll!

Fixed.
I had forgotten about that play until now, rewatched it on youtube. Still just as funny.

I thought that Peyton choose Tenn b/c LSU was hard after Booty and he went to the MLB instead of football right out of HS.

This.
Being bitter over why none of the Manning kids considered LSU strikes me as somewhat pathetic, at best.
And I'm not someone you could describe as a "Manning Fan" by any stretch.

Sans the Tillman part - I don't know what the hell you're talking about.
The Manning family didn't owe LSU anything. As a matter of fact, I would've expected Archie's boys to not go to LSU considering he went to Ole Miss. Good Lord - just because they grew up in NOLA, it doesn't mean that they were beholden to LSU.

Correct. I believe Spurrier was in the running at the time Archer was hired. If my memory is correct, which it probably isn't, Spurrier was on his way to Baton Rouge for the interview but Joe Dean gave the job to Archer before giving Spurrier a shot.
Great move by Joe Dean.
