Archie and Ely never sniifed even a conf title

Wrong, I was at that LSU Ole Miss game in '03, that ole miss team was good and we had to fight our arse off to beat them. The winner was going to Atlanta. And Archie was on some very good teams.

Jones did make that comment. MacLendon responded with a later comment about Jones not being very coachable. Keep in mind that MacLendon and Jones barely spoke to each other for almost a half year after Jones blew the Orange Bowl against Nebraska as a Sophomore and cost MacLendon his closest shot at a NC as a HC. In fact, to prove his point, MacLendon took Paul Lyons off of defense and put him back at QB and started him until the Notre Dame game.

Archie was a one man team who still beat LSU (and most other teams) and Eli did get an SEC-West co-Championship (with a banner and everything! ) with a supporting cast like Will Smith's on Fresh Prince.

Peyton by most accounts underchanved with only one SEC tile and no NC's. Tee Martin..enuff said.
Tee Martin never beat Danny Weurffel, either. And Peyton absolutely won the Heisman and absolutely had it stolen from him.

Peyton, Eli and Archie are (and were) all great QBs, in college and in the pros. Any one of their careers would warrant a great football reputation for an entire family (look at the hype surrounding Phillip Rivers' little brother, and Rivers hasn't matched any of the Mannings). The fact that all three of them are in one immediate family is unbelievable and almost certainly unprecedented at QB. In fact, I cannot think of a single family that has even had three starting QBs in the SEC, much less successful ones. And I surely can't think of one with three successful SEC QBs PLUS two SuperBowl rings.

Bottom line, if there's such a thing as football royalty, the Mannings are among it. Plus, Peyton makes some really funny commercials and none of them (as far as we know) does any of the stuff that makes football look bad (drugs, violence, steroids, etc.). I don't see them getting any hype they don't deserve or haven't earned.

Spurrier wanted the job when Arnsperger hand-picked Archer to follow him. And, I believe Arnsberger took the Florida AD job and hired Spurrier.
Correct. The "story" is that Spurrier was invited in for an interview and flew to Baton Rouge. But while he was en route, Dean gave the job to Archer. Spurrier arrived at the airport but no one was there to meet him, so he waited until he decided to catch a plane back home (Durham, I guess, at the time). Allegedly, he didn't find out until he got home that they had hired someone else and just not bothered to inform him or send anyone to pick him up.

Of course, there are some puzzling details to that story (like why he didn't simply pick up a payphone at the airport and call to say, "hey, what the hell is going on?"). But that's they way the story was being told in the years that followed. It is also largely credited as being the explanation for Spurrier delighting in running up the score on LSU so much. I'm not all that certain that the numbers back up a claim that he did it to us more so than anyone else he could run it up on, but it sure felt like he had it in for us.

I view Manning’s as THE most overrated sports family ever, they are good, but 11 seasons of CF with one sec title, no nc, no Heisman’s and a sub .550 sec record as a family does not deserve 1/100th of the credit they get imo

You are retarded.... The Manning's are without a doubt the greatest football family of all time. They get a majority of their credit for the things they did in the NFL so your argument really doesn't add up to your conclusion.

That's debatable (but only barely). The Matthews, for example, have just an astonishingly stellar football lineage. But the fact of the matter is that QB is the centerpiece position of football, and the Mannings have the greatest single family bloodline at QB. So they clearly deserve all the hype they get.

4) After the 44-3 loss to Miami in 88, did Ruffin Rodrique really say that basically Miami knew they were playing against a great team?

My dad was on this team with Ruffin and he said Ruffin would always like to frick with the reporters and say stuff like this. Just give them something to go crazy about He said Ruffin probably said something along the lines of they know our O line dominated theirs and they know we were great.
