Swarovski Z6
expensive as hell but probably worth it for that once in a lifetime shot. What other scopes can compare to one like this?
Posted on 6/28/11 at 3:17 pm to nhassl1
Schmidt and Bender
Zeiss
Have comparable scopes but it is damn hard to beat a top end Swarovski.

My Simmons 44 mag scope on my .06 has yet to miss. So, for the price I paid, Mine is better.

My Zeiss is all I can ask for.

If it's better than my Leupold Mark IV it's beyond the ability of my eyes to appreciate it.

you saying anything better than a Leupold isnt worth it?

I'm sure they are nice scopes, but there are so many things I can spend that money on. I'm not shooting anything from a half-mile away anyways.

If hunting is important to you, and you have the money to spend on it, I'm all for it. I actually like Leica a lot...

Hunting being important to a person has zero to do with it IMO. A $3,000 scope won't allow me to kill any more deer than a $300 scope. Actually the majority of deer that I've killed I shot while using a $150 Simmons scope, not once did the scope cause me to lose a deer. If you have the money, buy a $300 leupold and a muzzleloader hunt in Kansas or Illinois instead of a really expensive scope.
If it's just for shooting then I think you can spend a little more for quality glass if you're shooting 800+ yards, but I still wouldn't spend more than $600 or so.

No matter what you buy there is always something better.

Someone who has shot out of a 2000 scope tell me this, what is the real difference between that 2000$ one and a 60$ Bushnll.
Im asking cause I dont know.

I learned one thing the hard way:
Never look through a scope you can't afford.

I am liking these.
ONe thing everyone needs to understand is this. There are two different kinds of people on here. One kind is gonna be fine with an off the shelf rifle, factory ammo and a mid range scope. They will kill anything and everything the rest of us do. There is nothing wrong with this AT ALL. It's probably the best way to approach hunting. Then you have the rest of us. We buy rifles capable of shooting a mile with optics that out see what the rifle can shoot. We reload ammo that ends up costing twice what factory premium ammo costs. We do it because we cant stand "good enough". I am just getting into that group. Mostly because I am just getting to the point i can afford it somewhat (and thats debatable).

"Never look through a scope you can't afford." Very true! That's the only reason I'm looking at getting one. But I have to say, the big deer come out right before dark and you're not gonna get your shot with a pos scope. Is a $3k scope necessary. That's debatale, but I sure as hell wouldnt want a $150 pos on top of my rifle when I see the buck of a lifetime.

Only issue I ever had with my Simmons is that I'd like it to pull in more light. My dad bought a nikon buckmaster and I really like it, I'll probably get one for my gun eventually. But I can't justify spending much more than that on a scope.

I own zeiss and a z5.
Great scopes. I like the z5 a little more.
