Despite suffering a season-ending knee injury in March, New Orleans Hornets power forward David West is expected to opt out of the final season of his contract this week and become a free agent, according to sources close to the situation.

With his rehab going so well, how could he not? It's what I'd do. This will be his last good contract. He better try to get as many dollars added onto his salary as possible.

That said, despite what some might fear, this isn't a certainty that he's leaving and shouldn't be immediate cause for alarm.

All you can do is hope for a reasonable CBA and an actual new owner in the next few months. I still think both are a distinct possibility. If not, as I said in another thread, I will hunt down Billy Hunter.

does he even have real options?

looks like NJ or staying here to make more money. i'm leaning towards this opt-out being the latter

i don't know if that's good for this team, though

Good question. It may help to retain CP3 if there is any chance to do so. I still believe West (if healthy), Paul and Ariza can be part of a contender. Maybe even Oak if we obtain the right FA's. I know the salary problems, but I'm talking soley about personnel.

The only non rebuilding mode teams that have cap space and need a PF are Indy and New Jersey. I just can't see him choosing Indy over the Nets or Hornets, so it comes down to a game of chicken between Demps and Prokhorov.

really hope DEMPS doesn't freak out an overpay for a 31 yo jumpshooting PF that you have to build your offense around for him to be effective, coming off ACL surgery
