I went to one of redd's show's in Vegas just before he died. One of the funniest( and diriest} comedians I've ever seen. It was my honeymoon with my first wife. We were sitting up front and he picked on us the alot. After the show,he brought us drinks and sat with us at the bar for over an hour. He was really cool. It was right after the IRS took everything he had....."I'm coming to join you honey"

I agree with the interactions he had with Julio, especially one where he ended up going with Julio & Lamont to a Latin restaurant. They served the Sangria and Fred said it tasted like wattered down Ripple, they should call it Flapple...
Also, he told the waiter to bring another picture of it without all the trash....(the fruit)

Yo.

I have the first three seasons on DVD. Which is good, because in Season 2, Redd Foxx utters possibly the funniest line in television history, and you won't see it on TVLand.

Lamont is in court, fighting a traffic ticket, when Fred asks the cop what he has against black drivers. He then tells the judge: "Look at all the n*****s in here...we got enough n*****s in here to make a Tarzan movie."

ETA: I see Speedy beat me to it.

Sanford and Son is quite possibly a perfect sitcom.

Though it is based on a British idea, the setting and characters are truly original, the writing is truly funny, the actors bring unique qualities to their characters. The direction is simple and every episode is simple to understand.

It stands the test of time and is one of the funniest shows ever produced. I love it because it's one of those "white elephant in the room" shows that isn't afraid to say the things that people say in their kitchens and living rooms when no one is looking.

My dad didn't openly laugh at many shows, but S&S definitely did it for him.

Favorite episode is the one where Fred, Lamont, & Rollo answer an ad for parts in a movie and it turns out to be for a porno. They get arrested and the only one that can bail them out is Esther.

I asked my dad about Ripple and he said it was a popular and cheap wine in the 70's. He said you could get a bottle for a dollar.

I love the episode when they are playing poker and a bunch of guys take all of Lamont's money...Fred uses glasses that can see thru the cards to get all his money back and "hucklebuck's" hat..."ahhhhh, Woolite"

Just saw a classic episode where Fred, Grady, Bubba, LeRoy and Skillet threw a party to celebrate life after a friend of theirs passed away.

Grady was set to bring the women but Lamont told them to come later and by the time they got to the party Fred and company were passed out from dancing too much and having too much Ripple.
