I just tested mine..........
DAMN!!! I used it outside alongside my browning.
There is no comparison. I could see detail and color in trees at 50+ yards. It can definitely serve as a spotlight for coon hunting.
The two drawbacks I see:
1. The actual brightest spot of the light is pretty small.
2. "Waterproofing Design" - I don't like this wording.....and I don't see that it would really keep water out in a downpour. I'm nervous about a short in bad weather.
In summary, I think this is a badass flashlight. I will probably always carry a backup with me in case it goes out, but I will use it as my primary light at night from now on.
Overall, for $19.98, it will be very hard to beat.
2 questions:
1. Once fully charged, how long will it hold its charge if not turned on?
2. How long does it hold its charge in the field?

I didn't read this whole thread. What light are you talking about here? I've never seen a $20 light that is bright enough for coon shining.
ETA: And I want one.

It's the 500 lumen CREE light thanksjhester posted a link to on eBay on the first page. If you search eBay you can find a different seller out of California that will ship faster and it's a couple bucks cheaper. The lights are from china.

Boats n Hose covered it.
The CREE 500 lumen K8 flashlight. It is a flashlight we have been discussing. It is 7 inches long and weighs under a half pound. Rechargeable.
Pretty awesome little find. It will light up coon eyes from a long, long way. However, it will not illuminate an entire tree canopy. It will highlight a coon though.
I would recommend you buy one online. $19.98.
I ordered 5 and didn't pay taxes or shipping.
A poster linked a site from california. try it!!

Mine shipped yesterday
I'm anxious for it now, I was pissed off Friday night when I took out my Q beam I just put a new bulb in and it's still dim as hell
I'm gonna try to turn the bulb to make it more like a spotlight, but if that doesn't work I'll just get a new one. My brother bought a $10 cyclops from academy and put a $4 halogen bulb in it and it's bright as you could possibly want.

quote:I have used mine hunting in a downpour and it done very well. My sons the same afternoon got a little moisture but never missed a lick. As far as the charge , i have used them for hours without charge. I guess anything more you could pack the extra battery it came with. I did this in the beginning but quit because i never needed it

Got my CREE in...and now I have a question. Which way does the battery go in? My didn't come with any paper or diagram, only the batteries are marked + and -
Edit- answer was on page 5. Man this thing is bright!

No fires or smoke? Battery worked okay?
Posted on 7/18/11 at 7:49 pm to LSU_Lou
Nope the batteries came charged. The frame feels a little cheap, but it's super bright. It's like a spotlight and floodlight in one, the middle has a circle that is ultra bright and then the rest is dimmer, but it's still way brighter than my 5 LED Cabelas light I'd been using. Definitely worth the $20. I'm waiting for it to get dark and go play around with it

I did have some battery issues.
I bought five flashlights. Of those, 3 of the 10 batteries did not charge.
I'm in love with the flashlight, so I went to battery world to replace the ones that don't work.
The result is that the flashlight is even brighter. I didn't expect that........
Probably due to better quality batteries.
Hmph!!

The first battery I had worked fine. This thing is pretty amazing for $20, I could use the damn thing to spot frogs Gonna put the other one in tonight and charge it to make sure.
How long does it take to charge fully? Is this a lithium battery? My lithium cordless drill batteries charge in about 45 minutes so I just went off of that, left it in for 2 hours. It had a charge initially though.

How much did the battery replacements cost? I fried one of mine by putting a reverse charge on it
