Carolina receives NOA

It seems we avoided LOIC. Failure to monitor is technically not as bad, but, bad enough.

I am guessing vacated wins from at least '09, maybe '08 as well. Plus, a 1-2 year bowl ban, and lost scholarships, although, I have no idea how many.

Thoughts about what punishments you guys think we might get?

Hinton, not a big shock, punishment is a tough call, I thought early on you guys were being proactive, but after reading this UNC early actions to me come accross as arrogant a bit (we are UNC, we do no wrong), I think Butch has to go, but who knows...no matter what control was lost, even if not in the football office itself...

I'd go tOSU... UNC at least tried to do some damage control last season.

You can probably avoid punishment completely if you offer to fire Roy Williams.

j/k--I'm not a Carolina fan (especially in basketball) but I admire how Williams regularly attends other Carolina sports and sits among the fans.

This should be a drop in the bucket compared to tOSU. UNC suspended players and made the decision to suspend players.

tOSU encouraged players to scam the NCAA, lied to NCAA, and the scope is much broader than UNC's.

UNC broke more rules and major ones at that than tOSU. UNC had academic fraud, impermissible contact with agents helped by a coach on the staff, and extra benefits.

So the moral of the story: Good thing no one emailed Butch Davis about any of these things

This. UNC has 9 separate major violations. Not only did they pay players tey then committed academic fraud to keep players eligible. They're going to get hammered.

A lot of the accusations against Ohio State are going to end up as much less than published (SI article). It's going to be mostly limited to Tressel and Pryor and they're gone.

I must have missed the allegation where tOSU encrouaged players to scam the NCAA

UNC's involves Academic fraud. That next direct money payments is the biggest no no. And they didn't look to be too pro-active as Davis is still the coach and coached through an entire season with this shite going on.

The NCAA has created their own problem by serving as a de facto minor league system for the NFL, and to a lesser extent for the NBA. Those leagues should be forced to develop their own minor leagues (such as what exists with hockey and baseball) so those who want to attempt a pro career straight out of high school can realistically do so.

Sadly, there's too much $$$ in the current system for that ever to take place.

tOSU definitely. At least UNC suspended the players right off the bat. I don't think that Butch out right lied to the NCAA about his knowledge, involvement or was involved in a cover up. Does make a difference.

Does Butch ever coach again?

I would guess maybe so as an assistant in the NFL... but his last two stops have not gone so swimmingly

I suppose I would have to go to Monroe, LA, or Lafayette, LA to go to the flagship University of Louisiana huh?

Have you actually READ the NOA that Carolina received from the NCAA?

If so, please direct me to the portion of the document where the NCAA accuses Carolina of paying players. Then, to where the University itself committed academic fraud for the purpose of keeping players eligible.

Thanks in advance. :)

South Carolina did not receive a NOA.

CAROLINA did, though.
