I live in Omaha. I went to the game Sunday afternoon. On the plus side, parking is pretty decent, access is pretty easy if you don't mind walking. Creighton University has some student lots where you can park for $5-10, maybe 6-12 blocks away from the stadium. No tailgating though. I hear there are tailgating places to the North of the stadium, pretty limited and in a sketchy area of town. The tents are around, but scattered on all sides, not like walking down 13th Street used to be. The park itself has more leg room, bigger restrooms, etc. BUT the character of the CWS is gone, totally gone. Part of that is that we miss you, LSU! We hope when you return, you'll bring the party with you! Omaha totally has a soft spot for LSU fans. The new park is just a park. It's just baseball, not an event anymore. It's hotter than the gates to hell sitting down in the ground, surrounded by concrete. And I miss the stand where you could buy curly fries and onion blossoms! I have little interest in going to any more games, this is the first year my family hasn't gone to at least half of them in many years. Old Market people are bemoaning that business isn't what was expected. Well, at Rosenblatt, everyone had to drive somewhere after the game. This new stadium is surrounded by hotels and restaurants. No reason to go to the Market and spend $8 to just park, and then buy their overpriced food/drinks! I am so sorry, I apologize in advance to you in Tiger Territory, I think you are gonna be disappointed. Hope to see you next year!
Thanks for that report. I think that's what many of us were afraid was going to happen.

Just wait until LSU gets back to Omaha. Then you will see a bunch of tailgating. LSU fans WILL find places to tailgate around the stadium. Then everyone else will follow.

I hope you are right. For the record, here are the RULES for the MECA lots which are pretty much just for season ticket holders... LINK
I just didn't see many people even trying to tailgate. They do admit they are turning a blind eye to the alcohol as long as there aren't problems. Maybe one of the hotels will let you tailgate in their parking structure!
I heard that up by 13th and Nicholas that an LSU fan had a half million dollar RV with awnings and restaurant style racks for the dishes, bought hay to spread around the RV... I haven't seen it, but apparently there are places you can go to tailgate. It's kind of a creepy part of town, though.
Thought of a few other things I miss... The LSU guy who threw the beads - haven't seen him this year (he was here last year). The ballgirls - no more net or booing the ballgirl. There is HUGE foul territory, so not many balls come into the stands.
If you've watched on TV, the crowds aren't filling the place. The season tickets are sold, but the people aren't coming. True, the weather has been yucky (either really humid and hot, or drizzling like today), and the flooding and backed-up sewer smell doesn't help.
They are dismantling Rosenblatt, the auction is tomorrow for anyone who might want anything. You can bid online. Honestly, I find it incredibly tacky that they are auctioning trash cans, brooms, urinals, etc. Go to www.rosenblattauction.com if you are interested.

The CWS is better when LSU is in it.
True story.

I agree with all of his/her comments. I was at the game on Sunday afternoon as well. This is my 9th CWS and I have been to about 30 games. The only thing I will say is that I parked in Lot D and there were plenty of tailgaters in there.
However, other than that, the atmosphere from Rosenblatt was missing bigtime for me. It's not that anything was "bad" but there is no uniqueness to the stadium. And for some reason it was hot as hell. I was disappointed but I'm sure I/we will get used to it.

How many times do you think it will change names if it lasts 50 years? I can't see TD Ameritrade memorials 50 years from now like they had for Rosenblatt.

Omaha is wrong IMO. Everything is much better. The stadium is unreal, MLB caliber with slightly less seating. No lines for anything--in or outside the stadium. beer tents are bigger and better. It's been a huge drunkfest party every night.

I don't mind the tailgating either. We do enough tailgating for football. I welcome the change of party scene. Plus all the locals truly do love LSU. You wouldn't believe how many people have stopped by a group to say geaux tigers we appreciate you being here, etc.

Love the sign. Where did they have that up at?

I'm the OP. My first hand reporters were disappointed but thought that after a few years they(Omaha) would get the tailgaiting situation right. I'm just a bit cynical. I think the NCAA likes the change and could care less about the tailgating issues. I know for a fact that the NCAA shut down the RV lot behind Rosenblatt because of "alcohol concerns". I also wonder how much control Omaha turned over to the NCAA in return for the long term contract to have the world series guaranteed to Omaha.

His dad passed away and HE also had a heart attack this year. Been friends with his family for a very long time. He'll be back...just was too much this year.

no
The guy he is talking about lives in Rayne. I remember as a kid traveling up in their convoy. One of their Travel trailers was filled halfway with mardi gras beads
