CPA Review Courses

I just graduated in May with an accounting degree and I have the required 150 hours to be able to sit for the CPA Exam. I am looking to see what you professionals think of the review courses available.
In school, Becker advertising was all over the place, but I am hesitant to spend the $3,000 if another course will produce the same result. But, at the same time, I do not want to put in the time and effort on a review course that is not all that great and will cause me more problems preparing.
Any suggestions? If you could, list some alternative review courses to Becker.
Thanks guys!

Go check out cpanet.com. It will have tons of opinions.
It is more about the person than the study materials.

cpanet and another71 are good sites with plenty of opinions about the review options
I know plenty of people who have used both Becker and Gleim to pass successfully. Others I have heard of are Yaeger, Wiley, and RogerCPA.
I can recommend Becker from personal experience, but it is really expensive

Just be wary of cpanet posts. People on there are (or used to be) incredibly negative. Don't get discouraged; the test is hard, its not impossible. Buckle down and study and you will be fine.

CPAexcel is another option that is a cheaper option to Becker.
Becker is typically known as the "best" but a steep price tag is assigned to it.

Yeah. I think you can pass it with any of them as long as you put in the time, but its probably the most important test you're taking up to that point in your life, so why even mess around. IMO, just fork over the $2600. Pass it quickly and re-sell it on ebay, I got $800 back for mine.

If it helps, my wife passed all 4 parts (on the first try) within 4 months of each other last year with Becker. From an outsider, I think it's very much worth it.

Is your wife smart? Where did she go to undergrad?

I used Becker and completed all 4 parts within 4 testing periods (one part per period). In my opinion you get what you pay for and looking back it was worth every penny. The CPA exam covers a massive amount of information and Becker does a great job of putting that information into a structured format. If you stick to their study itenerary you will have no problem passing.

If you are looking for something on the cheaper side I would recommend the Roger CPA cram. As the name implies it's a cram course, so it's not for everyone, but I will say that the $200 REG cram is the one that finally got me a passing grade, and my highest score on any section at that. I have been working in public accounting for 3+ years however, so you need to factor that in. The full blown course material may be the better option for someone straight of of school.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I agree that it is the most important test in my life thus far and a big step for career progression. I am looking to put in great effort and time in preparing so I didn't want to be wasting my time on a "so-so" prep course if it wouldn't do the job.

All courses boast a high pass rate. You can probably pass with any course if you're dedicated to studying. I made two mistakes. I waited too long after school and I didn't really take the exam seriously. If you don't make studying your number 1 priority the exam will kick your arse. I failed two parts because I let other things get in the way. Just tell yourself that you'll have no life for six months and get it done. Failing then getting back into studying is miserable trust me. Take it seriously the first time then it'll be behind you. I used Yaeger but like I said I didn't make studying my first priority. I think another71 has discount codes for Yaeger at least they did when I ordered. If you're working see if your company will pay for your course. I didn't think mine would because I don't work in public accounting but my boss told me when I pass the company will reimburse me for the cost of the test and study materials.

Just to be clear, Roger offers full blown course material as well... and it looks like they offer a $500 discount on all materials this week. Check out some of his demo lectures and see if he's your style. He's a little on the "unusual" side, but I found his lectures are 100 times more interesting than the Becker idiots.
