Anyone spent any any time here and have any restaurant suggestions? I have a craving for sushi but wasn't sure about the places here.

my wife has eaten sushi at Hayashi on 82nd a couple of times and says it is good but not great. i personally haven't eaten sushi here in town. when we moved here, I asked my buddy's japanese wife for suggestions of good japanese restaurants and she said there weren't any--so, I've avoided them. of course, that would be like someone asking me about one of the three "cajun" restaurants in town....
let me know if you want suggestions for other types of food or just good restaurants in general.

Hard to get good sushi in Lubbock. My rec would be Abuelo's.

Abuelo's has good atmosphere if you just want to drink margaritas but the food is average tex-mex. if someone wants really good Mexican, I'd send them to Taqueria Jalisco (Avenue Q). Picante's on 34th is also a solid choice. keep in mind, neither of these places are "atmosphere" places.
Other suggestions:
Seoul on 50th for Korean
Maharaja on 80th for Indian
Manna or Cafe J for "upscale" dinning
Steakhouses: Double Nickel or Las Brisas or Cagle (more affordable than the first two but the kitchy faux ranch atmosphere turns some folks off).
Tripple J: brewhouse in downtown w/ decent food.
Home Cafe for great weekday lunches and the best Sunday Brunch in town.

Lubbock. When I moved to this area, I was told the city was toward the top in terms of restaurants per capita. folks here love to eat out. unfortunately, they have crappy taste in food. the original dinning scene is fairly limited but if you work hard and sift through the crap, you can find some solid choices.

Just don't like the area. No offense intended towards you.

i'm not from Lubbock or TX, so i have no natural attachment to the place. i do find it funny that people's default response is to cringe when you tell them you live in Lubbock. I tell people Lubbock is a nice place to live but you'd never want to visit....
it wouldn't make any list of top places i'd want to live in the south/southwest. but, now that i'm here, it isn't bad--friendly people, dirt cheap cost of living, little crime, little traffic, and solid public schools. i'm here for my career and don't plan to be here long term but i don't find it a bad place to live.
