Where are some of these places? I realize I have a google function, but generally vicinity is all I need to know.

Seems about half the places doing poboys legitimately give a crap about what they're doing and put out something worthwhile. Among these, it's really just a matter of personal preference (loyalty?) and maybe some considerations as to cost.
In this group, I like Parkway and Guys, but there are plenty others folks could name that I wouldn't quibble with.
The other half don't give a crap at all and just throw together whatever they get their hands on.

Kid Creole on Airline has a terrific roast beef poboy - one of the best I've ever had.

traceys-magazine street uptown near Washington Ave. good mix of everything. Known best for the Roast beef though.
parkway- mid city. best roast beef hands down. surf and turf is good too(roastbeef topped with friend shrimp)
crabby jacks- near Orleans/Jefferson line where where Jefferson HWY turns into Claiborne ave. Duck po boy, fried green tomato, cochon de lait, and roast beef all really good. Just my opinion, but they have the best all around po boys, rather than specializing in 1 or 2.
like someone said, everyone has their own preferences

Tracy's was dull when I went. They were out of roast beef, shrimp, and oyster.

Only one I can't vouch for (I guess I need to check it out -- and I definitely can't quibble with glass' rec), but the rest all clearly fit my first tier criteria.
Radosta's is another one mentioned that clearly fits it as well. I always forget about that one.

Thanks for the advice, this place sounds really good.

Either glass or lester might know, but anyone else who can answer this would be great.
There used to be a place on Vets that served their poboys on these big seeded italian loaves that I absolutely loved. It was across from that big white pharmacy (C's maybe?) on the right going toward Bonnabel from Orleans.
It's no longer there, but does anyone know the place I'm talking about and does anyone know currently using that sort of bread on poboys. R&O's uses something similar, but it's not quite the same as I remember from this place. It had an Italian name, Giordanos???
