WVUE showed a map on their 5:30 broadcast that was just released from the Corps. It showed the estimated time it will take for the Mississippi River water to reach areas after the Morganza Spillway is open.

Not necessarily. This doesn't show inundation, just the time to that particular area.

Originally they said that Krotz Springs and Melville would see backwater about 7-8 days from the opening of the spillway. Now according to this map it says 36-48 hours. Could this map really be accurate or will it take longer than that?

Also, I think there is a high tide (which Im sure is figured in) during this process which probably accelerated the "backflow" part of the equation

I should edit to say that these two things are different. THe map only shows time for the Mississippi River water to reach these areas. It will take longer for them to flood. With that said, 7-8 days seems like a long time.

The Morganza spillway will only let through the flow above 1.5 mcfs from the river. It will not flood nearly as fast as that map shows.

Nice map. Thanks for posting it.

The map does not show time to FLOOD. The map only shows time for the Mississippi River water to reach the specified areas.

if the water reaches Hwy 190 in 12 hours the land from there back to the gates would not be flooded?

Meh, not initially. I imagine it would first find its way down there through the existing channels. Maybe it's just semantics and you're right, it's still a flood. We'll see in 48 hours!

No. It is leveed in at that point. The water will come back around once the water gets south of the levee system. That is why Krotz Springs and Melville have ring levees. The Spillway water does not reach them directly, because the Atchafalaya levees send it south. But then the water comes back round the outside of those levees.

Looks like Amelia might get the worst of it.

When the water gets to 190 under the four mile bridge I guarantee you hwy 10 between Melville and the east Atchafalaya floodway levee will be under several feet of water
