I think the COE and who ever else is scared . . . . . .

chitless to open Morganza. The south guide levee already has seepage.

I agree. This is uncharted territory for the structure.

I'm pretty much anticipating a failure of the structure. It almost failed in 1973 and this is much worse.

I believe it was upgraded after 73.

ETA: Are we talkeing about ORCS or the Morganza guide levee?

They did say there were improvments since then but I think the thing is the guide levees is what they are scared of failing.

The mighty MS is fighting back against the corps full force. These next few weeks will be interesting to say the least. You hate to be a dooms dayer but to not consider the real possibility is naieve.

The Morganza control structure did not almost fail in 1973. The Old River Structure almost did. The river was actually trying to go under it and it almost did. That structure is what keeps the Mississippi in its current channel

That being said has it ever dealt with pressures and flow rates of this magnitude?

no, but was it designed for it?


lets hope, i don't think the issue with scour they had previously will be a problem again based on the way the structure was rehabilitated

So many people are still confused about these two structures and keep asking questions and making assumptions that don't make alot of sense.
