chitless to open Morganza. The south guide levee already has seepage.

I agree. This is uncharted territory for the structure.

I'm pretty much anticipating a failure of the structure. It almost failed in 1973 and this is much worse.

I believe it was upgraded after 73.

They did say there were improvments since then but I think the thing is the guide levees is what they are scared of failing.

The mighty MS is fighting back against the corps full force. These next few weeks will be interesting to say the least. You hate to be a dooms dayer but to not consider the real possibility is naieve.

It is a strong possibility. I think most people here realize that.

No kidding, didn't this debate rage for like 3 or 4 pages yesterday?

The Morganza control structure did not almost fail in 1973. The Old River Structure almost did. The river was actually trying to go under it and it almost did. That structure is what keeps the Mississippi in its current channel

Agreed. I should just resign to the fact that I'm going to have to read misconceptions/questions like that numerous times a day now.

That being said has it ever dealt with pressures and flow rates of this magnitude?

no, but was it designed for it?
lets hope, i don't think the issue with scour they had previously will be a problem again based on the way the structure was rehabilitated

I actually expect levee breakages during this whole episode.

That was my whole point a-hole.

I realize that buddy. That is why I said it.
So many people are still confused about these two structures and keep asking questions and making assumptions that don't make alot of sense.
Chill out.
