This widespread picture is hammering Beale St. businesses:

The famous sections of Beale St. are 60 feet above even the 48 foot crest but this picture is making Beale St. a tourist ghost town.
I hate it when the media puts drama ahead of reality for affect.

the merchants on beale are not very pleased with the sensationalism the media has created.

An unfortuate side-effect of this type of shite.

I can't stand the sensationalism
When the tsunami was headed toward Hawaii, the girl at headquarters asked the field reporter, "Are you scared for your life right now?" The reporter turned around and looked and said, "Umm, I'm halfway up the mountain. I'm pretty sure we're safe." The lady says "But it's headed right for you!"

Beale was pretty packed this past Saturday night, but the Grizzlies did have a game.

Actually, because of the lack of damage to Memphis I feel confident that BR will barely flood, if at all.

You're preaching to the converted with that one. File it along with "It's been a ____ months/years since Katrina and New Orleans is still in ruins." :canceltrip:

Tigerdroppings created a flood board to sensationalize the event too.

If you've been to Memphis, you obviously know better. If you're someone that hasn't and maybe was planning to come for the first time, that can be very misleading.

Unfortunately, they now know what Gulf Coast beaches went through all of last year due to the oil spill. I saw a thread on a Michigan scout site where they were talking about beach vacations. One vacationer said they were scared to take a chance on the Gulf because of uncertainty of the oil spill.
I went down to Gulf Shores (only 45 minutes away from me) several times last summer and rarely saw any signs of oil but the media was hell bent on making sure all business was driven away from the area. The area looks like it always has yet people are convinced the beaches and Gulf water is permanently destroyed and unsafe. Thanks news media.
