I'm pretty sure it was only closed briefly. Opie sold it and the new owners kept the name.

I think it stayed open, they just keep weird hours. I dont believe they are open Saturdays and only open Friday nights or something like that.

That's exactly what they said. I didn't know a place named Phil's existed. But, on channel 9 news they said Opie's would become Phil's "again".

It caught my attention because i've been there a few times in the past year or so.

About Opie's. I used to eat there once/week. I thought it smelled a LOT like an elementary bathroom! I love the food but the smell was just terrible. I think it was pine sol cleaner or something. All Star Catfish - FTW

I sold it in 2009, Rick sold it to Mike and Courtney beginning of 2011.

Hours are normal now, even added sunday brunch.

I have zero vested anymore, I only answer questions when they want to know the original way things were done.

They are changing the name to "Phil's Oyster Bar and Cajun Cafe"... I saw that on the news and talked to the owners about it.

People that run it now are good people, most of the waiters are pretty awesome, I just met a couple of them a few weeks ago.

Rag, thanks for clearing that up.

And dingo, if you're gonna toss out my transcript for the world to see, make sure you add the other 2 Business degrees from LSU as well please. That posterboy shite for BRCC was free marketing, nothing more. I really wish they'd take those down.

You're right buddy. I think they had to add the cajun cafe part bc someone still owns the name or has the rights to Phil's Oyster Bar.

Only been in the bon carre area for a little over a year. Went to Opie's a few times and had some awesome Etouffee. Then it changed apparently because of new owners and the etouffee sucked. Then went back and they had good etouffee again. Then heard the name was changing.I was like wtf is it with this place?

I wasn't intending to knock your education, Opie.

It probably is time for them to take the billboards down.
